Ever wondered how to solve a German genealogy mystery when the usual records lead nowhere?
In my seminar “Cracking the Case with German Records You’ve Never Used Before”, I will show how seemingly impossible cases can be solved by thinking beyond the standard sources.
What makes this seminar special is that it is not simply a list of records and repositories. Instead, I take you through a real research story step by step, demonstrating when, why, and how to use different German sources strategically to crack the case and uncover the answers hidden in the records.

If you enjoy learning through real examples and want to expand your German genealogy toolbox, this seminar is for you!

In the 1920s, two little boys were separated when their parents divorced. Later, the chaos of the Third Reich tore them even further apart. They spent the rest of their lives on two different continents, never seeing each other again.

Tonight, after almost a century, I will reconnect their descendants.

This is why I do what I do. ❀

“Do not look at what divides you. Look at what unites you. Be reasonable, be human.”

Today, the new stamps arrived, featuring Margot FriedlÀnder, one of the most significant Germans of our time.

Margot FriedlĂ€nder (1921–2025) was a German Holocaust survivor and one of the most important contemporary witnesses to N**i persecution. Born in Berlin to a Jewish family, she first went into hiding but was arrested in 1944 and deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp, where she survived. Her parents and brother were murdered in Auschwitz.

After the war, she emigrated to the United States, where she lived for more than six decades. In 2010, in her late 80s, she returned permanently to Berlin. In her final years, Margot FriedlÀnder devoted herself to Holocaust education, especially addressing young people, and became a widely respected moral voice for humanity, remembrance, and responsibility in Germany.

Planning a heritage trip to Germany? Then you don’t want to miss this seminar by Ute Brandenburg from German Genealogy Headquarters.

On January 17, I’m sharing what I’ve learned from planning and leading multiple heritage trips to Germany and Poland. We’ll talk about how to turn years of research into a meaningful journey - without stress, guesswork, or luxury-tour prices.
This presentation is for anyone who wants a real, personal connection, not just sightseeing.
Come get inspired and start imagining yourself there!

I’m proud to announce that I’ll once again be part of the Legacy Family Tree Webinar family next year 🎉

On 3 June 2026, I’ll be presenting
“Cracking the Case with German Records You’ve Never Used Before.”

In this webinar, I won’t just introduce you to lesser-known German record types — I’ll also show you how to use them effectively and strategically to move your research forward when you feel stuck.
And the best part? It’s completely free.

👉 You can register here: https://familytreewebinars.com/webinar/cracking-the-case-with-german-records-youve-never-used-before/

I’d love to see you there!

In Germany, the period between Christmas and the New Year is referred to as "zwischen den Jahren" (between the years), a term stemming from a time when the end of the year was celebrated on December 24th, while the new year began on January 6th. It wasn't until 1691 that the final day of the year was officially established as December 31st by Pope Innocent XII. Some of you might know this time as "the twelve days of Christmas".

How many times in a row can one listen to “Jauchzet, frohlocket, auf, preiset die Tage” from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio? Asking for a friend (who just found a client's birth mother and a heir who will receive news of a great Christmas present waiting for him in 2026?)
