This is the ADHD burnout loop 👇🔁

It starts with an idea you’re so excited about 🤩

You dive in headfirst, hyperfocused, and working really hard (definitely harder than is sustainable long-term, but you can’t help it). 

Then the task starts to feel heavy. You lie awake at night thinking about all the things you still need to do. You’re afraid that if you don’t get it done soon you’ll lose steam and interest. And then it’ll never get done.

The stress and lack of sleep make it harder to notice your own needs and boundaries. Instead of backing off when you need rest, you push harder.

You say yes when people ask you to do something for them, even though you’re already stretched too thin - because when you’re under pressure it feels even harder to say no (and it feels so horrible to be rejected). 

Those extra tasks tip you over the edge.

Your body is screaming: No! This is too much!

You feel burned out.

Now you’re cancelling plans, calling in sick, pulling away from everything. 

You rest. 

You start to feel a little better.

The energy comes back.

And then…

A new idea sparks.

And the cycle begins again.

Getting an ADHD diagnosis late in life isn’t just a relief.

It’s messy, big emotions. It’s sorrow; of suddenly gaining your whole future, but having lost your past to struggles you didn’t understand.

To struggles you couldn’t name ❤️‍🩹

For a long time, I thought these things were just part of my personality 👀

But once I learned more about ADHD, a LOT of things about my life and (what I thought were my) personality started to make a lot of sense 🙏

ADHD can shape the way we feel, think, speak, and move through the world 🫶

So much so that it can be hard to see where the ADHD ends and you begin 🙏

Let’s go through some small steps you can take to get some quick wins… 🙌

Nervous system regulation:
👉 Add short sensory breaks throughout your day (like stretching, walking, or using a weighted blanket).
👉 Practice noticing physical sensations (like the feeling of your feet on the ground) to reconnect with your body.

Stress levels:
👉 Schedule time every day for something calming you enjoy.
👉 Practice setting gentle boundaries around your time and energy, even if it’s just saying no once a week.

Improving relationships:
👉 Seek out likeminded people in neurodivergent communities locally or online for support and friendship.
👉 Choose one relationship to nurture by sending a kind message or checking in.
