Doctors pathways for Denmark.
Copied
I want to share something about the current situation for us in Denmark.
This is not about blaming the DPSA or saying that the authorization pathway is false. Everything written in the authorization letters and official information is generally true.
But the real question many of us are silently asking is:
“What will our future look like during this long journey?”
Because between receiving authorization guidance and actually becoming established in the Danish healthcare system, there are years of uncertainty, financial pressure, language struggles, emotional stress, and professional insecurity.
The reality begins with:
- Learning Danish to a very high level while working survival jobs.
- Supporting yourself financially for years.
- Competing for limited KBU opportunities.
- Facing uncertainty even after passing exams and PD3.
- Watching time pass while your medical career remains on hold.
This is the part nobody really discusses openly, including myself. And honestly, many people feel that no one can truly change it.
The issue is not that the system is fake or dishonest. The issue is that many foreign doctors do not fully realize how difficult, expensive, mentally exhausting, and long this process can become before reaching stability.
We are losing motivation. Some run out of money. Some struggle psychologically. Some eventually leave Denmark ,or even leave medicine completely, despite being qualified doctors.
We respect Denmark, the rules, and the process. We are grateful for the opportunity.
But there should also be more honest conversations about the practical realities and long-term uncertainty international doctors face after arriving here.
In 2025, SIRI issued around 52,000 residence permits, and many healthcare professionals and doctors arrived with hopes for a better future.
The question is:
What will our future here look like?
And more importantly:
What can we do together to support each other?
