Welcome Aboard: First Meeting with the Newly Appointed ESAPs

The WPA ECP Section welcomed its newly appointed Extended Section Appointed Positions during an introductory Greet and Meet session.
Participants learned about the Section’s structure, working procedures, available resources, and their respective projects.
The meeting marked the beginning of a collaborative journey focused on transforming new ideas into meaningful international initiatives.

We don’t like to admit it… But many of us have missed opportunities because we hesitated to present in English.
Here are our 6 practical ways to overcome this fear and share your work with the world !

1. Your goal is clarity, not perfection.
Your goal is to be understood, not to sound like a native speaker.

2. Memorize the first 2 sentences
Beginnings are the hardest. Scripting your introduction will give you a confident start.

3. Use Simple language.
Short sentences. Clear transitions. Complexity increases your cognitive load under stress.

4. Rehearse out loud, not in your head.
Speaking activates different neural pathways. The more you speak; the more confident you feel

5. Anticipate and pre-write answers to 3 questions.
Q&A is where anxiety peaks. Reduce uncertainty in advance.

6.Reframe your thinking:
The audience is there for your work, not your grammar. Shift your focus from “how do I sound?” to “what am I communicating to the audience?”

The WPA Early Career Psychiatrists Section is pleased to invite interested members to participate in an innovative and interactive session at the World Congress of Psychiatry 2026 in Stockholm:
“Difficult Cases: A Panel Discussion on Diagnostic and Management Problems Across Continents”

These sessions will feature de-identified real-world clinical cases presented by Early Career Psychiatrists, followed by discussion with international experts and audience members. Two themed sessions will be held:

Thursday, September 24, 2026 | 09:15–10:15
Theme: Neurodevelopmental Disorders
Expert Discussant: Dr. Kerim Munir

Friday, September 25, 2026 | 09:15–10:15
Theme: Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders
Expert Discussant: Dr. Sanil Rege

Each session will include two case presentations by ECPs, expert commentary, and an interactive panel discussion with audience participation.
