Precision in Root Canal Obturation
With Dr. Nehal Nabil at GMS Academy, learning is all about detailed explanations and precise, hands-on clinical steps to help you achieve predictable and accurate root canal obturation.
The plugger is measured using a ruler so that its length is 5 mm shorter than the Working Length (WL) while the canal is still empty. This is because we will thermally remove/burn the Master Cone, leaving the apical 5 mm in place.
If the plugger does not reach the desired depth, move to a smaller size. If it feels too loose inside the canal, move to a larger size.
The Pen works as both a heat source and a condenser, allowing you to heat and compact the gutta-percha. Select the appropriate tip and adjust the silicone stopper so that the tip also reaches 5 mm short of the Working Length. Don’t forget that the tips should be properly sterilized between cases.
🔑 The golden rule to always remember:
Both the Plugger and the Pen tip should be 5 mm short of the Working Length.
