There are some places where children just seem to become more themselves.

Less holding it together.
Less rushing.
Less noise inside.

Maybe it’s the sea.
The woods.
Their bedroom.
A swimming pool.
A grandparent’s house.
A football pitch.
Somewhere completely unexpected.

I love noticing the places where a child’s shoulders drop, their curiosity comes back, and they seem to have a little more room to just be.

💛 Where is your child’s happy place?

Tell me in the comments — I’d genuinely love to know.

Sometimes home is where the problem starts.

Not because home is the problem.

Sometimes home is simply where the holding-it-together stops.

A child may have spent the whole day managing noise, demands, transitions, concentration, social expectations and effort.

Then they get home.

The bag drops.
The tears come.
The frustration spills out.
The smallest thing suddenly feels huge.

What we see at home may be the release — not the beginning.

So instead of only asking:

“How do I stop this?”

We can also ask:

“What came before it?”

That question can change everything.

💛 If you’re wondering what your child might need in those moments, I made a free parent guide to help you start noticing the clues underneath behaviour:

This is such an important distinction.

A child can know the rule.
Know what happened last time.
Know what they should do.

…and still not be able to access that skill when their body is overwhelmed.

Knowing something in a calm moment and using it in a hard moment are different skills.

That changes how we respond.

"Everyone says 'just breathe'… but when my feelings get big, it doesn't work!" 💛

Meet Connie and Breezy — two of the Breathing Space Crew. They help children notice what their bodies are telling them, and discover what actually helps when feelings get big.

Because every child is different. Some need to move. Some need a cuddle. Some need quiet. The trick is spotting the clues.

What if we’ve been starting in the wrong place?

When a child is overwhelmed, angry, anxious, restless, silly, shut down or simply full, our instinct is often:

“Calm down.”

But what if we helped them become curious instead?

What is happening in my body?
What am I noticing?
What might I need?

In The Breathing Space, children enter the world of Fenn, Willow and the Breathing Space Crew and explore those questions through stories, characters, movement, creativity and adventure.

Helping children understand themselves.

Some children don’t explode.

They don’t shout.
They don’t throw things.
They don’t always look like they’re struggling.

They go quiet.

They say “I’m fine.”
They stop letting you in.
They disappear into screens.
They become “easy.”

But easy isn’t always calm.

Sometimes the child who worries us most isn’t the loud one.
Sometimes it’s the child carrying what they can’t explain.

At The Breathing Space Project, we help children understand themselves through:

Connect. Move. Breathe. Notice.

Because children don’t need to be forced into calm.
They need safe ways to come back to themselves.

Message “SPACE” to join the after-school club interest list.

Sometimes children don’t have the words for what’s happening inside.

So it comes out as:

“I don’t know.”
Anger over tiny things.
Not listening.
Boredom.
Screen-seeking.
Meltdowns.
Shutdowns.

It can look like defiance from the outside…
but underneath, their body may be overwhelmed.

Before more instructions, reminders or consequences, sometimes children need regulation first:

movement, connection, pressure, breath, safety, and time.

That’s what we explore inside The Breathing Space Project — gentle, child-friendly tools to help children connect, move, breathe and notice.

Sometimes the anger isn’t the problem.
Sometimes the anger is the message.

Children don’t always have the words for “I’m overloaded,” “I feel out of control,” or “my body doesn’t feel safe right now.”

So before we demand calm, we can offer pressure, movement, connection and breath.

That’s what Momo Move helps children discover:
their body can feel big feelings… and still find its way back. Follow for more ways to connect, move, breathe and notice www.thebreathingspaceproject.com
