Four years ago today, I lost my dad.
And honestly⦠there are still days when I canāt process life without him.
He was the one man in my life who was solid.
The one who was always there.
Always had my back.
Always showed up.
Always helped with the kids.
Always answered the phone.
Always helped me through whatever problem I was facing.
Anything I needed⦠he was there.
He was my safe place.
My constant.
A strong male figure in my life.
The person I knew I could rely on.
And losing him left a hole in my life that I donāt think will ever truly be filled.
I think one of the hardest things about grief is the finality of death.
How do you process the fact that you will never hear their voice again?
Never have another conversation?
Never see them walk through the door?
Never be able to pick up the phone and say, āDad, I need youā?
You donāt.
Not really.
You just learn to live with the fact that someone can be missing from your life and still be present in almost everything.
In the memories.
In the stories.
In the things he taught you.
In the way you parent.
In the moments you wish you could tell him about.
I miss him.
I miss having my dad.
I miss knowing he was there.
I miss the comfort of knowing that no matter what happened, I had him.
Four years later, and I still canāt believe heās gone.
I donāt think I ever will.
I just hope that wherever he is, he knows how much he is loved, how much he is missed, and how much of him lives on in me and in the children he loved so much.
Four years without you, Dad.
And I still wish I could call you. š¤
