Hello all.
I wasnt sure whether to say anything to the group yet or not. But its one less thing running around in my mind if I do.

So, many of you have noticed ive lost weight in the last year and I have lost 20kg.
One or 2 kindly commented on my big belly too.

Some of you know this already.
I was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer 19 years ago called essential thrombocythemia. My bone marrow made too many platelets. So I had a risk of heart attack and stroke and so always needed to be hydrated and look after myself. I stopped partying and smoking and things had been relatively normal apart from getting tired easier.

I also have a low Von Wilbrand factor, which means my platelet quality is poor, risking bleeding.
Over time they were both problems but also balanced each other out.

About a year ago I became more tired, lacking energy and muscle disappeared and my once peachy butt now needs a bra.

After doing a cat sit in June, the cat kept making biscuits on my stomach. It was very uncomfortable and I realised my spleen was enlarged.

I went to A&E.
They confirmed an enlarged spleen and liver and high white cell count.
Next day more blood, ultrasound and bone marrow biopsy and on Wednesday it was confirmed that my thrombocythemia is now myelofibrosis.
So a scar tissue in the bone marrow is preventing blood cells being made and my liver and spleen have been working overtime to catch up and gotten enlarged. They've pushed on my stomach and stopped me feeling hungry.

So.
Im waiting for medication to reduce my spleen and im hoping to get on a new medical trial in valencia which involves 1 day a month there and taking meds and completing a daily app. I dont know how that will make me feel.

If I cant get on the trial (please send possitive thoughts I do) i will need a bone marrow transplant.
This will mean 2 months in hospital, chemo, and the donor marrow replacing the diseased one.
I'll have no immune system and cant even change the cat litter.

So. I dont know when the walks will start up again after summer and im still trying to get my head around it all.
Ive had lots of support, but know being far away in simat de la valldigna means getting help will be harder.

Fingers crossed this new trail is possible and it helps.

Ive been a carer for many years and ive supported people pass home to spirit.
Cancer is always a scary word to hear and i know there will be good and bad days.
Im here on my own so my friends are very important.

The only thing im really worried about is the care of my cat and watering the garden.

So possitive vibes please and fingers crossed ill be like a mountain goat in no time.

Thank you. Xx

⚠️ URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT: Portuguese Man-of-War Stings ⚠️
Following recent sightings of Portuguese man-of-war (Physalia physalis) on our beach, we've put together a quick guide on how to avoid stings and how to react correctly.

📌 IMPORTANT NOTE TO AVOID CONFUSION: The Portuguese man-of-war is NOT a jellyfish, even though it may look similar. It is a hydrozoan (a colony of different organisms working together). Why does this matter? Because its venom is much more potent and dangerous than that of any common Mediterranean jellyfish. Don't be fooled into thinking it's "just a typical sting"; the pain is excruciating and can lead to serious medical complications. Take it seriously!

Please read this prevention protocol carefully so everyone knows how to react and, above all, report it immediately by calling Civil Protection or the Local Police if you see one on the sand or in the water, so they can come and clean up and cordon off the area as soon as possible.

🚫 How to avoid getting stung?

NEVER touch it: Not in the water, not on the sand.

Even if it appears dead or dry, its tentacles are still active and its venom remains intact.

Stay away from the area: Its tentacles are almost invisible and can be several meters long.

If you see the floating blue "bag" on the shore, the danger surrounds that entire area.

⚠️ Attention to children and pets: Prevent them from playing near the shoreline or breakwaters, where they tend to accumulate due to currents. Keep dogs on a short leash.

🚨 What to do if you see one?

Alert the lifeguards: Immediately inform the nearest lifeguard station or local authorities so they can raise the caution flag and safely remove the specimen.

🔵 How to react in case of a sting?

Get out of the water immediately.

Wash the area ONLY with seawater.

Freshwater activates the venom and drastically worsens the pain.

Carefully remove any remaining tentacles using tweezers, gloves, or the edge of a plastic card. Never use bare fingers.

Apply local heat: Immerse the area in hot water (around 40-45°C) or use warm compresses for 20 minutes to soothe the pain.

DO NOT rub: Do not use towels, sand, vinegar, alcohol, or urine.

🏥 Where to go in Tavernes? Lifeguard Station on the beach.

Serious cases or emergencies: Call 112 directly.

Pupdate.
Thank you all for your generosity and kindness with little Lady.

Shes been staying with the vet nurse and had been doing well after several set backs.
Unfortunately her heart and kidney problems have beaten her and she has developed pneumonia in the last 24 hours.
They cant do anymore for her so she will be going home to spirit today.

The money raised has gone to helping her over the last few weeks which has been well over €1000 of treatment even without the operation we had hoped would make her right.
At least she has known love and kindness, if only for the last few weeks of her short life.

Its definitely not the news we wanted to hear and its times like this that make rescue volunteering so hard.
Thank you again.
