The latest SEIMC recommendations highlight the importance of molecular testing for mpox confirmation, clade assignment and epidemiological surveillance. Approximately 27% of newly detected mpox infections in Spain currently lack clade assignment.

Today, parts of Spain will witness a total solar eclipse, the first of its kind visible from the Iberian Peninsula in more than a century. 🌑☀️

But what could a solar eclipse and diagnostics possibly have in common? More than you might think.

Both remind us that there is more than meets the eye.

In healthcare and research, finding the right answer often means looking beyond what is immediately visible, following the right diagnostic pathway and uncovering what may initially remain hidden.

Take mycobacterial diagnostics, for example: acid-fast bacilli may be visible under the microscope, but seeing them is only the beginning. Further testing is needed to understand exactly what we are looking at.

At Vircell, we have spent years approaching diagnostic challenges from different perspectives, developing solutions that help laboratories look deeper, connect the pieces and reach better answers.

Just as an eclipse changes the way we see the Sun, diagnostics remind us that a different perspective can reveal what was hidden all along.

This World Hepatitis Day, diagnosis deserves the spotlight. 🌍

Hepatitis D is one of the most severe forms of chronic viral hepatitis, yet it remains underdiagnosed.

For HBsAg-positive patients, HDV screening is key to identifying possible cases. But screening is only the first step: confirmation of active infection requires HDV RNA testing.

A recent publication by Buti M. et al. in Gastroenterología y Hepatología shares expert recommendations to improve hepatitis D diagnosis in Spain, highlighting the value of reflex testing, double reflex testing and more efficient care pathways.
