Hernia, protrusion, or osteoarthritis: do you know the difference? 🦴
We often use these terms interchangeably, but when it comes to the spine, they refer to very different conditions:
🔹 Herniated disc: occurs when the intervertebral disc ruptures. Pain mainly arises if the disc touches the nerves or presses against the spinal canal.
🔹 Protrusion: a bulging of the disc that hasn’t ruptured yet.
🔹 Stenosis & Osteoarthritis: a narrowing of the spinal canal or wear and tear on the joints and discs.
✨ How can osteopathy help?
A good osteopathic treatment isn’t about forcefully “adjusting” the structure, but rather working to create space, decompress tissues, and restore mobility. Combined with physical therapy, it can be the key to avoiding surgery.
