How do your muscles recover after a massage?

During a massage, pressure and movement are applied to the muscles and surrounding tissues. This can temporarily increase blood flow to the area and reduce muscle tension, allowing the muscle fibres to move and function more freely.

Afterwards, your body continues to respond to the treatment. The nervous system adjusts to the reduced muscle tension, while the muscles gradually return to their normal resting state. If the treatment has been deeper, your muscles may also need some time to recover from the work they've received, which is why you can sometimes feel tender the next day.

This is part of your body's normal recovery process, not a sign that the massage has damaged your muscles.

Have you ever wondered why you can feel different the day after a massage?

Why I never rush appointments

A massage shouldn't feel rushed and neither should you.

That's why I allow time for your consultation before we begin, and time afterwards for you to get ready at your own pace. Everyone is different. Some clients are ready to hop on and off the massage table straight away, while others prefer to take things a little more slowly.

Your appointment is about more than just the massage itself. I want you to feel relaxed, listened to, and comfortable from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave.

Taking a little extra time helps make your whole experience that much better.

Massage Myths vs Facts

❌ Myth: Massage should always be painful to be effective.
✅ Fact: A good massage doesn't have to hurt. The right pressure depends on your body, your goals, and the type of treatment you're having.

❌ Myth: One massage will fix everything.
✅ Fact: While you may feel a difference after one treatment, long-term results often come from consistency and looking after your body between appointments.

❌ Myth: Massage is only for people with pain.
✅ Fact: Massage can also support recovery, reduce stress, help maintain mobility, and be part of a healthy lifestyle.

What's the biggest massage myth you've heard?

What is your body trying to tell you?

Your body is always communicating with you ..... you just have to listen.

Tight muscles might be telling you they need to move more. Persistent aches could be a sign you've been overdoing it. Feeling tired all the time may mean your body is asking for more rest and recovery.

The earlier you listen to those signs, the easier it is to support your body before small niggles have the chance to become bigger problems.

What's your body trying to tell you today?

Why I love helping people.

There's nothing more rewarding than seeing the difference a massage can make to someone's day.

Whether it's helping to ease their pain, reduce stress, improve their movement, or simply seeing them leave the clinic looking happier than when they arrived, that's what makes this job so special.

Knowing I've helped someone feel better, both physically and mentally, gives me a huge sense of job satisfaction. It's one of the reasons I still love what I do.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me to be part of your health and wellbeing journey.

A question I'm asked every week...

"How do you know where to massage?"

It's not guesswork.

As part of my training, I studied anatomy and physiology as well as a range of massage techniques. Understanding how muscles work, how they're connected, and how the body moves helps me assess what's really going on.

One thing many people don't realise is that pain doesn't always start where you feel it. Sometimes the area that's hurting is simply the place that's compensating for tension somewhere else. That's why I always assess each client before deciding how to tailor their treatment.

Have you got a question you've always wanted to ask a massage therapist? Let me know below.

How massage fits in with a healthy lifestyle

Most of us know the importance of eating well, drinking enough water, and staying active. We count our steps, go to the gym, or make time for exercise because we know it's good for our health.

But how often do we think about our muscles? Do we stretch regularly, listen when our body needs a rest, or do something to help release the tension that builds up from everyday life?

Massage doesn't replace healthy habits, it supports them. By helping your muscles recover, easing built-up tension, and keeping your body moving comfortably, massage works alongside the choices you're already making to help you stay active and feel your best.

Healthy living isn't just about what you eat or how much you exercise, it's also about looking after the body that makes it all possible.

What I wish every client knew before their first massage

I wish more people understood that massage isn't just about relaxation, it's about looking after your health.

Massage is often seen as a luxury or beauty treatment, but many people don't realise the positive impact it can have on their health. Massage can help people living with ongoing muscle tension, headaches, stress-related symptoms, sports injuries, poor posture, and conditions that affect mobility by supporting the body's movement, easing muscular discomfort, and improving day-to-day comfort. It can also play an important role alongside rehabilitation, exercise, and other healthcare treatments, helping people stay active and continue doing the things they enjoy.

Yes, it's lovely to leave a massage feeling relaxed, but what excites me most is helping people improve how their body feels and functions long term.

Your body works hard for you every day. Looking after it shouldn't be seen as a luxury.

One tip to help your body today...

Stretch!

It sounds simple, but it's something many people don't do often enough.

Stretching can help reduce muscle tension, improve flexibility, and keep your joints moving more comfortably. Making it part of your daily routine may also help stop tight muscles building up over time and becoming more uncomfortable.

Even just 5 minutes can make a difference.

When was the last time you stopped to stretch?
