Un equipo liderado por Mercedes Ricote en el CNB- CSIC identifica las señales moleculares que promueven la especialización de macrófagos pulmonares.
Sin estas señales, los macrófagos no completan su maduración y se compromete la funcionalidad y salud del pulmón.
El trabajo es fruto de la colaboración con el Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares, la Universidad Complutense de Madrid KTH Royal Institute of Technology y el Karolinska Institutet de Estocolmo.

📢 Tomorrow at CNB: join us for the seminar ‘Exploring the epidermal stem cell niche’, given by Dr Fiona Watt, Director of EMBO and internationally recognised leader at EMBL (Germany).

The Watt group is investigating how human epidermal stem cell renewal and lineage selection are controlled by reciprocal interactions with the cellular microenvironment, or niche.

👏 We are very pleased to share that José María Carazo, Research Professor at the CNB-CSIC, has today received the 2026 Ivano Bertini Award, recognising his outstanding contribution to integrative structural biology.

The award, presented by Instruct-ERIC with the support of Bruker, was delivered during the Instruct Biennial Structural Biology Conference (IBSBC), currently taking place in Brussels.

👉 Una nueva estrategia ayuda a reducir la metástasis del melanoma y a mejorar la inmunoterapia en ratones

🔴 En modelos preclínicos, bloquear una molécula clave en la metástasis del melanoma reduce la propagación del tumor a otros órganos

👥 El trabajo incluye además el análisis de muestras de 45 pacientes, que sugiere que la propagación del melanoma podría anticipar una peor respuesta a la inmunoterapia

Today we have welcomed Dr Paco M. Bergara (EMBL Heidelberg) for the ‘Share your Perspective and Broaden CNB’s Horizons’ initiative of the Severo Ochoa Synergy Programme.

During his visit, he has met with the group developing the proposal “Synthetic multicellularity: the future milestone of Synthetic Biology?”, a project focused on addressing the conceptual and technological challenges of engineering microbial systems to understand multicellular organisation in prokaryotes and its implications for the transition to multicellularity in eukaryotes.

The initiative aims to promote the scientific leadership of early-career researchers and support their professional development through guidance from mentors within the centre other than their P*s.

It also encourages new collaborations and the exchange of perspectives with international experts, enriching the conceptual development of their proposals.

¿Se puede reducir la capacidad invasiva del cáncer de mama metastático?

🔬 Un estudio in vitro explora una estrategia basada en nanopartículas de óxido de hierro para limitar la migración de células tumorales.

Today, we hosted the workshop “Molecular Chaperones: Key Players in Proteostasis”, which explored, through three thematic sessions, the molecular mechanisms of chaperone protein systems, their role in cellular regulation and protein quality control, as well as their impact on disease and therapeutic strategies.

The meeting also featured a poster session, providing an excellent opportunity for interaction and networking.
