On June 20, I will be part of Community Through Music at the Casa de Cultura in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
An evening with music, people from different backgrounds, and a simple idea behind it:
bringing people together for something positive.
The doors open at 18:30 and the performances will take place between approximately 19:00 and 20:30.
Living and working in the south of Gran Canaria, I meet people every day from many different countries and walks of life. Some stay for a holiday. Some build a life here. Some are searching for rest, connection or simply a place where they can breathe a little easier again.
I think that is also why this evening touched me.
Not because it is “big” or spectacular.
But because it is human.
The event will support several local initiatives connected to food support for vulnerable families, animal welfare, Alzheimer and dementia support, and community health programs.
In my own work at Dennis Chiron Massages, I often see how much people silently carry with them. Stress. Loneliness. Pressure. Exhaustion. And sometimes all it takes is a moment where somebody feels welcome again.
Music can do that too.
Maybe that is what community really is:
not trying to change the whole world at once, but still choosing to show up for each other where we can.
