Yesterday, the USO Rota team brought sailors of the USS John Basilone (DDG-122) and their families together for a special Welcome to Rota BBQ!

From delivering meals to the duty section to sharing Spanish tapas, hamburgers, outdoor games, and plenty of camaraderie, every detail was about making our sailors and families feel supported and connected to their new home away from home.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our incredible community partners and Navy Federal Credit Union for helping make this celebration special. Your generosity makes events like these possible!

And to our amazing USO volunteers, who worked tirelessly from 0700 until the very end, you are the heart of the USO mission!

This is what community looks like: coming together, and reminding those who serve and the families who stand beside them that no matter how far from home they are, they are never alone.

🎃👻 Today, our USO Superheroes took Halloween fun on the road, visiting commands across the base for some Reverse Trick-or-Treating!

We knocked on doors, opened plenty of smiles, spread some Halloween magic, and let’s just say… the candy was FLOWING! Our mission? A little sweetness, lots of laughter, and a whole lot of USO love!

👀 BUT WAIT… WE’RE NOT DONE YET!

Keep your eyes open tomorrow… our USO Minions might be popping up at YOUR command!

Where will they strike next? Which command will be next to get a little Halloween surprise?

STAY TUNED, BASE… THE USO MINIONS ARE ON THE MOVE! 👀

A LITTLE HALLOWEEN MAGIC, A LOT OF SWEET USO MEMORIES!

This week, our active-duty service members traded their daily routines for frosting, sprinkles, and a little Halloween creativity!

From decorating spooky cookies to enjoying a few (or maybe a lot! 😉), it was an evening filled with laughter, creativity, and great company.

At the USO, it’s about more than just cookies, it’s about creating moments of connection, building community, and giving our service members a chance to relax, recharge, and enjoy time together.

Sweet treats, spooky creations, and smiles all around; that’s Halloween at the USO!

Mission accomplished: treats delivered, smiles shared, Halloween spirit activated! Trick or Treat, USO Style!

Who says Halloween fun has to wait?! Yesterday, our USO Minions and Superheroes brought a little Halloween magic to the pier, visiting every ship in port and spreading smiles, laughter, and bags full of candy to our amazing Sailors!

From our mischievous Minions to our mighty Superheroes, our incredible volunteers turned an ordinary day on the pier into a sweet surprise filled with treats, laughter, and unforgettable moments. The smiles were endless, the candy was flowing, and the Halloween spirit was everywhere!

Because sometimes, all it takes is a little candy, a lot of heart, and a few USO Minions and Superheroes to make someone's day extra special!

WELCOME HOME, USS Paul Ignatius - DDG 117!

Family and friends gathered on the pier with signs, cheers, and smiles to give our Sailors a heartfelt welcome home!

We were honored to be part of this special homecoming, sharing refreshments and snacks while celebrating this proud moment with our Navy family.

Behind every homecoming are dedicated Sailors, supportive families, and sacrifices that deserve to be recognized. This week, we celebrate their service, resilience, and the joy of reuniting with loved ones.

Over the past week, USO Rota has been at pier-side for our Sailors as they arrive, depart, or stop by, providing essential supplies, refreshments, freshly baked treats, a warm welcome, and a heartfelt “see you soon!”

And when it’s time to head out to sea, our Programs in a Box brings a little extra joy on board! These thoughtfully prepared packages are more than just care packages; they remind our Sailors that they are appreciated and supported, even when they’re far from home.

Because no matter how far they sail, USO is there to bring a little piece of home on board.

On October 13, we celebrated the 251st Birthday of the United States Navy, honoring its proud history and the Sailors who have defended our nation and safeguarded the seas for generations.

To mark this milestone, we hosted a Navy Birthday cake-cutting ceremony, with Team Rota’s oldest and youngest employee in attendance doing the honors.

A huge thank you to our friends from Navy Federal Credit Union and Hotel Playa de la Luz for their partnership and the extra-special gifts that made the celebration even better, and to our amazing volunteers for always showing up and supporting our service members!

Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Navy and to all the Sailors, past and present, who proudly serve our nation!

A week and a half. That’s all it took for Zyreece to make his mark at USO Rota!

In less than two weeks, Zyreece has already gone above and beyond. From helping us keep our center doors open later, to supporting the arrival of the USS John Basilone, to connecting with his fellow service members and encouraging them to get involved in USO programs and events, he’s making every moment count!

Yesterday, our USO EMEA Regional Vice President, Grant McCormick, had the opportunity to personally thank Zyreece for his dedication by presenting him with a USO coin of recognition.

Because making a difference isn’t about how long you’ve been volunteering. It’s about the heart you bring to it.

Thank you, Zyreece, for stepping up, taking initiative, and reminding us what it means to be a force behind the forces!

Some homecomings are worth every moment of the wait.

As the USS John Basilone (DDG 122) arrived in Rota, Spain, the pier was filled with anticipation, excitement, and the kind of reunions that remind us what it means to serve.

From the first welcome to the long-awaited embraces, the USO was there alongside our military community, making sure every sailor and family felt the warmth of home.

Because sometimes, the most meaningful thing we can offer is simply being there. ❤️

A new ship. A new homeport. A warm welcome to Rota!

The USO was proud to join the military community in welcoming the USS John Basilone (DDG-122) to Naval Station Rota!

From providing refreshments to sharing in this special milestone, we were honored to be part of the celebration. Our USO EMEA Regional Vice President, Grant McCormick also joined us for the occasion, connecting with military leadership and celebrating the arrival of Rota’s newest homeported ship.

To the Sailors and families beginning this new chapter, welcome to Rota! We look forward to helping make this community feel like home.
