IKO Level 2 is where everything starts to click. From sand to water, this course turns your first kite skills into real riding 🪁

The different phases you go through:

💨 Power Control & Deep Water Safety
Before riding the board, you first learn how to control the kite in the water and use its power safely and efficiently. Step by step, you build the confidence needed for your first meters riding.

🌊 The Waterstart & First Rides
Once you’re comfortable controlling the kite, it’s time to introduce the board and experience your first real rides.

⚡ Right of Way & Safety on the Water
You also learn about the basic “traffic rules” of kitesurfing and how to ride safely with others in busy spots like Tarifa.

From bodydragging to your first rides across the water, this is where the addiction really begins 🤙🏽

At Freeride Tarifa, we know that the first day can bring a mix of excitement and nerves 🌬️ Let’s be clear 💡 you won’t be riding waves on your first day! But you will gain the most fundamental skill: kite control 🪁

This post is your roadmap to success, detailing every step of your first few hours on the beach. Get ready to have fun, stay safe, and fall in love with the wind!

✨The Three Pillars of Initiation✨

Your first lesson, 2 to 3 hours, is entirely dedicated to safety and kite control on sand. We divide the session into three crucial phases:

1️⃣ Equipment & Safety
✅ The Wind Window You’ll learn where the kite has power (the “power zone”) and where it doesn’t. We also introduce the wind direction and local effects.
✅ Setup Of The Gear You’ll learn how to set up the kite, to connect the lines, and secure the bar.
✅ Safety Systems You will learn how to use all the safety release systems (the quick release and the leash). Safety is paramount in kitesurfing.

2️⃣ Kite Control
✅ Trainer Kite Or Smaller Size We often start with a smaller kite to develop basic steering skills in total safety.
✅ Steering & Power Management With the full-sized kite, you will practice flying it within the wind window with many different exercises.

3️⃣ Body Drag Introduction
On land we introduce the Body Drag stage. Exercises for body dragging in kitesurfing focus on developing core strength, balance, and one-handed kite control to simulate the position you’ll use in the water and some body muscle memories.

👏After mastering the basic kite control on land, if you are ready to go, your second class moves to the water to learn Body Drag stage.
