Sour is the taste that wakes your body up. 🍋

In the right amount, it sparks appetite, fires up digestion, and eases gas and bloating. Too much, and it shows up as heartburn, puffiness, or skin flare-ups.

Yogurt is one of the most valued foods in Ayurveda. It builds strength, improves appetite and nourishes the body.

But the classical texts are clear about its nature: it is heating, heavy and sour after digestion. Eaten at night, heated, every day, or on its own, it can slowly build heat and heaviness in the body.

Ayurveda’s answer is simple. Churn yogurt with water and lift off the butter, and it becomes buttermilk. It is light, kind to digestion, and praised in the old texts as nectar for humans.

Try one glass with lunch and notice how you feel.

Save this for later, and share it with someone who eats yogurt every day.

If you’d like to understand food the Ayurvedic way, Join our Ayurvedic Food & Nutrition Course begins on 30 January 2027. 12 live online classes, one every week, at School of Vedic Sciences.

Curd is one of the most valued foods in Ayurveda. It builds strength, improves appetite and nourishes the body.

But the classical texts are clear: it is heating, heavy and sour after digestion. Taken at night, heated, every day, or without the right accompaniments, it can slowly build heat and heaviness in the body.

Churned with water and its butter removed, it becomes buttermilk. Light, gentle on digestion, and praised in the old texts as nectar for humans.

One simple glass with lunch is worth trying.

Save this for later, and share it with someone who has yogurt every day.

As the season changes, your food choices should change too. Ayurveda considers the qualities of the season, your digestion, and how your body responds to different foods.

In October, consider reducing these foods, especially in excess:

🍅 Tomatoes
🍆 Eggplant
🥔 Potatoes
🍍 Pineapple
🥝 Kiwi
🍊 Sour oranges
🌽 Corn
🌾 Wheat
🫘 Black lentils
🫛 Green peas
🫘 Chickpeas
🥣 Yogurt/curd — especially at night

This is a general seasonal guideline, not a prescription for everyone. Your Prakriti, Agni, current condition, preparation and quantity all matter.

🌿 Save this for October.

Sweet taste isn’t sugar. 🤍

In Ayurveda, sweet is the taste of whole, nourishing food: grains, root vegetables, ripe fruit, nuts, legumes, milk and ghee. It builds the body, supports strength, and calms the mind. In excess, it can cause heaviness and congestion, so balance is key.

💬 Tell us in the comments: what is your favorite naturally sweet food?

📌 Save this post so you can come back to it, and share it with someone who thinks sweet is the enemy.

And also if you want to go deeper into Ayurvedic food and nutrition? Our live Ayurvedic Food and Nutrition Course is coming soon. Stay tuned, and follow so you don’t miss the announcement.
