We had a wonderful session at Maya International School exploring how to decode child behavior and support positive growth!
To effectively manage, increase, or decrease behaviors, we must first look beyond the surface and understand the 4 Functions of Behavior
1️⃣ Attention: Seeking connection, reaction, or interaction.
2️⃣ Escape / Avoidance: Trying to get out of an overwhelming task or demand.
3️⃣ Access to Tangibles: Wanting a specific item, activity, or item.
4️⃣ Sensory / Automatic: Internal feedback that feels good or self-soothes
When we identify the true function, we can replace challenging behaviors with functional communication and supportive interventions building a bridge of connection rather than conflict.
