LIVE-ADDIS: Nurturing both youth and the environment for a brighter future!
LIVE-ADDIS successfully hosted a colorful graduation ceremony for youth trainees who completed a comprehensive 6-month program focusing on vocational skills, health education, entrepreneurship, psychological support, and capacity-building. This initiative was made possible through the generous project funding of the Merck Family Foundation via KKS (Germany), in close collaboration with relevant governmental and non-governmental partner organizations, targeting selected youth from Lemi Kura Sub-City (Woreda 10) and Yeka Sub-City (Woreda 09).
What made this event truly special was that, alongside receiving their professional certifications and startup toolkits, the graduates actively participated in the national Tree Planting Campaign. Dressed in vibrant LIVE-ADDIS t-shirts, the youth demonstrated their commitment to environmental stewardship and national responsibility.
The event was attended by key government representatives from the Yeka Sub-City Labor and Skills Office, NGO Monitoring and Evaluation Officers, Woreda 09 Executive and Deputy Executive Directors, Advisory and Support Committee members, community volunteers from both sub-cities and woredas, graduates, their families, as well as friends and staff of LIVE-ADDIS.
Key Highlights of the Event:
• Certification & Startup Support: Graduates were presented with official completion certificates and provided with essential tools and equipment to launch their businesses immediately.
• Ensuring Sustainability: Detailed documentation outlining each graduate’s skill profile and the support provided was officially handed over to Sub-City and Woreda officials to ensure continuous follow-up and support.
• Cultural & Social Celebration: The event featured a traditional bread-cutting ceremony, refreshments, and a joyful celebration with music and dancing alongside the graduates.
In his opening address, Mr. Alemayehu Teshome, Founder and Executive Director of LIVE-ADDIS, stated: "LIVE-ADDIS is dedicated not only to equipping young people with practical skills and resources, but also to nurturing responsible citizens who actively contribute to our nation’s green legacy." He reaffirmed LIVE-ADDIS’s commitment to sustainable community development and social transformation.
Mr. Alemayehu expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the government stakeholders, the local community, the entire LIVE-ADDIS team, and especially to our primary partners, the Merck Family Foundation and KKS, for their invaluable support. On behalf of himself, the leadership team, and the staff of LIVE-ADDIS, he wished all the graduates a fruitful and successful career journey!
