Day 4️⃣ of our East African Oncology Delegation visit focused on strategic healthcare partnerships, world-class medical innovation, and high-level trade diplomacy. Here is a recap of our key engagements:

1. Sheba Medical Center 🏥
Our clinical tour took us to Sheba Medical Center at Tel HaShomer—consistently ranked among Newsweek’s Top 10 Hospitals in the World. Known globally as a pioneer in personalized medicine and AI-driven healthcare, Sheba deeply impressed us with its comprehensive oncology workflows, cutting-edge clinical trials, and holistic patient-centered approach, and and massive research footprint—running up to 250 Phase 1–3 clinical trials annually.
Key technical highlights included:
✅Ocular Oncology Excellence: Learning invaluable "Ocular Oncology pearls" from Prof. Vicktoria Vishnevskia-Dai (Vicky Dai) at the Goldschleger Eye Research Institute. Their specialized service exemplifies clear clinical priorities in eye cancer management: saving life, saving the globe, and preserving vision.
✅Precision Radiotherapy: Seeing their integration of MRI simulation for high-precision treatment planning was deeply inspiring.
✅Skin Malignancies: Their specialized superficial radiotherapy capabilities, utilizing a 100 kV radiotherapy machine (SRT-100 Vision), allow for highly effective, targeted non-surgical treatment of skin lesions.
✅Theranostics: As a Chelsea fan, I was completely surprised and thrilled to visit the Roman Abramovich Theranostics and Nuclear Medicine Center! Beyond the football connection, seeing firsthand how their targeted molecular imaging and radioisotope therapies are advancing precision cancer care was unforgettable.

2. Strategic Meeting at the Israel Export Institute
We engaged in highly productive discussions at the Israel Export Institute in Tel Aviv. Together, we explored strategic avenues for sustainable international partnerships, technology transfer, and capacity building—all critical steps toward strengthening oncology infrastructure across East Africa.

3. Culinary & Networking Highlights 🍽️🍻
The conversations continued to flow over a wonderful lunch at Cafe Lugano in Ramat Gan and a warm evening gathering at Porter & Sons in Tel Aviv. These moments provided a relaxed setting to foster deeper regional connections and reflect on the day's insights.

Day 4 reinforced how visionary clinical leadership and cross-sector collaboration can drive transformative progress in global cancer care.

Day 3️⃣ of our East African Oncology Delegation visit brought an inspiring mix of advanced clinical innovation, turnkey healthcare solutions, and rich cultural history. Here is a look back at our key stops and takeaways:

1. Davidoff Comprehensive Cancer Center at Beilinson Hospital 🏥
Our tour of the Davidoff Center at Rabin Medical Center showcased a world-class oncology hub. A standout highlight was their breakthrough in-house point-of-care CAR T-cell therapy manufacturing, which slashes delivery times to just 8️⃣ days (compared to 3–6 weeks globally)—a life-saving leap for aggressive hematologic malignancies. Their massive research infrastructure supports 10 research labs, a dedicated GMP production facility, over 120 annual scientific publications, and >150 clinical trials per year. The advanced Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy institutes, featuring simulator-free radiotherapy platforms showcased the bright future of cancer care

2. Elsmed Healthcare Solutions 🏢
At Elsmed, we explored scalable healthcare infrastructure and global turnkey oncology solutions. With 25+ years of experience across 50+ countries, they have executed 250+ turnkey projects, deployed 1,000+ advanced imaging systems, and hold a 95% market share of Israeli oncology centers through partnerships with the industry leaders like Siemens Healthineers, Varian, and IBA.

I was particularly impressed by their mobile PET-CT and mobile MRI units—a powerful model for expanding diagnostic access to underserved areas.

3. Guided Tour of Old Jaffa
We spent the late afternoon exploring the ancient port city of Old Jaffa. Rich in heritage, the historic city is renowned for its profound roots in early Christian history linked to the apostolic journeys of St. Paul and St. Peter, bridging ancient legacy with modern surroundings

4. Culinary & Networking Highlights 🍽️🌅
We gathered over lunch at Triola Brasserie and dinner at Kalamata along the Mediterranean coast, using these moments to reflect on clinical insights and strengthen ties across our delegation and hosts.

Each stop on Day 3 reinforced how local innovation and adaptable healthcare models can redefine access to cutting-edge cancer care.

Stay tuned for Day 4 for more exciting takeaways !

Following our memorable start in Jerusalem, Day 2️⃣ of our East African Oncology Delegation visit to Israel offered a compelling mix of rich history, world-class clinical care, and groundbreaking medical technology.
Here is a breakdown of our visits and key takeaways:

1. The Israel Museum & The Shrine of the Book 🏛️
We began the day immersing ourselves in history and culture at the Israel Museum, Shrine of the Book and Jerusalem Model. Understanding the deep historical context of the region provided a wonderful foundation before diving into our clinical engagements.

2. Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Centre 🏥
A significant highlight of the day was a visit to Hadassah Medical Centre, a leading tertiary care hospital in Jerusalem. Renowned for its seamless integration of world-class clinical care with groundbreaking academic and translational research, the expansive campus features over 1,000 beds, 30 operating theatres and a fortified 19-storey tower. It also houses Jerusalem’s only Level 1-A Trauma Unit. We gained valuable insights into their comprehensive cancer care delivery, multidisciplinary approaches and advanced clinical workflows. Furthermore, connecting with a distinguished individual such as Professor Eyal Mishani, who founded the first Israel nuclear medicine facility 30 years ago, was an exciting opportunity.

3. Alpha Tau Medical Ltd. (Har Hotzvim)
At Har Hotzvim, we explored the forefront of radiation oncology innovation with Alpha Tau Medical. Learning about their proprietary Alpha DaRT (Diffusing Alpha-emitters Radiation Therapy) technology highlighted how targeted alpha therapy is advancing the treatment of solid tumours. It is a unique opportunity to learn that this is one of two centres in the world where such treatment is being tested and founded by Professor Itzhak Kelson, Chief Physics Officer, who first elucidated this remarkable scientific theory. Colleagues, oncology care is getting nuclear and it’s the future

4. Dinner at Zhanzheria 🍽️
We wrapped up an inspiring day over dinner at Zhanzheria, along with colleagues from Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Centre, reflecting on the day's discussions and strengthening professional bonds within our delegation and hosts.

Each stop provided a deeper understanding of how cutting-edge research, clinical excellence and technological innovation converge in Israel’s healthcare ecosystem. The insights gained are of significant value to our respective institutions and countries.

Stay tuned for Day 3 updates as I continue sharing insights from this inspiring visit!
