Here people come together from all over the world to practice yoga and conscious self development. During your spare time you can enjoy the beautiful surrounding nature. You can try swimming in the sea or even go canoeing. Indoors, you can enjoy a coffee in our coffee shop a

nd also relax in the sauna. In the summer season from June to August you can come to stay for a week, two weeks or as long as you like up to several months. You could also join us just for a weekend workshop. However, if possible, we recommend that you stay 2-3 weeks or longer in order for you to benefit the most from your experience. Of course, the longer you stay the more economical it is for you. During the rest of the year we arrange monthly weekend workshops. Also, longer retreats (5 days or longer) are held during Easter holidays, Christmas and other long holidays. Additionally, outside the summer period, there is teaching in Helsinki. Please contact me if you are interested. All levels are welcome. Also complete beginners!

Why environments matter for practice.

Practice does not happen separately from life around it.
What we see, hear and spend our days around matters more than we often realize.

At Kadermo, you arrive by boat to a small island in the Finnish archipelago where there are no cars, no traffic and no unnecessary noise competing for attention.

Ancient oak trees.
Sea air.
Beautifully restored old wooden buildings.
Early mornings in the shala.
Peaceful days shaped around the practice.

And little by little, something begins to settle.
It becomes easier to hear what is already there underneath all the noise of everyday life.

The Kadermo Summer Retreat Period begins soon.

You are warmly welcome to practice with us in the archipelago.

Soon the rhythm of summer returns to the island. 🌿

Morning practice.
Sunlight through the trees.
Bare feet on wooden floors.
Sea swims in the evening light.

For over 30 years, people from around the world have gathered on this small island in the Finnish archipelago to practice and live for a while in a different rhythm.

Less noise.
More presence.
More space to simply be.

One of the special things about the Kadermo summer retreat season is that you can shape the length of the retreat in the way that feels right for you. 🌿

You can join for a weekend, stay for a week, combine several retreat weeks together, or spend a longer period on the island, from a few days to even more than a month.

Each retreat period includes daily Ashtanga Yoga asana practice, pranayama, and additional theme-based programme.

Over time, the rhythm of the days begins to deepen the experience in a special way.
Practice, rest, nourishing food, nature, stillness, sea air, and the presence of a like-minded community.

Some come for a short reset in the middle of summer.
Others choose to let the island become home for a little while.

Summer 2026 Teachers

For the summer season, we are happy to once again welcome the same dedicated group of teachers to Kadermo island.
Their long connection to the place, and to the practice, creates a steady and supportive space for each retreat week.

🔸Stefan Engström
Stefan is the founder and resident teacher of Kadermo Retreat. He has been practicing yoga asanas since 1990 and teaching Ashtanga Yoga since 1994. Authorized Level II by KPJAYI, his teaching is grounded in decades of experience. Stefan’s way of guiding is precise and steady, offering a clear structure that allows the practice to unfold naturally over time.

🔸Heidi Ruokoniemi
Heidi has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga since 2004 and teaching since 2009. She was authorized by Sharath Jois in 2012 to teach both Primary and Intermediate series. After living in India for seven years, immersed in practice and teaching, she now shares her experience with clarity, warmth, and a deep respect for the tradition.

🔸Isabella Nitschke
Isabella is the owner of Ashtanga Yoga Malmö, where she runs a daily Mysore programme. With over 18 years of experience, she has assisted Sharath Jois in Mysore and continues to study yoga philosophy, chanting, and Sanskrit. Her teaching emphasizes breath, sensitivity, and awareness, with a strong focus on supporting the nervous system and creating a safe, inclusive space.

🔸Tashi Dawa
Tashi joins from Australia and has been teaching at Kadermo for many years. She is well known in the European Ashtanga community and brings a clear and technical approach to her teaching. Her guidance supports students in refining their asana practice with precision, presence, and consistency.

There are places that can truly support the practice.

Less noise.
More space.

A supportive structure.
Knowledgeable guidance.
The warmth of like-minded souls.

A rhythm shaped by the sea, the forest, and the day itself.

Even a retreat of a few days can be enough to reconnect.

You are warmly invited to join us on the Kadermo island.

Kadermo is shaped by continuity.

Since 1994, retreats have been held on this island under the guidance of Stefan Engström, whose own path in meditation began in 1985 and in Ashtanga Yoga in 1990.

Long before yoga became widely known in Finland,
before mats, clothing, or studios were part of everyday culture,
the practice was already being lived here.

Simply, steadily, and with depth.

What is passed on is not belief or ideology,
but a way of practicing that supports clarity, responsibility, and self-knowledge.

Yoga at Kadermo is experiential.
It is about learning through direct experience,
meeting the body, the breath, and the mind as they are.

This is how the practice has been held for over thirty years,
and how it continues today.

We wish you a beautiful start of the 2026 and hope to see you at the island this year!
