Does Lyme Disease Exist in Argentina?

At the 1st Annual Conference on Chronic Infection Pathologies, Dr. Mónica Carugatti presented research exploring the evidence for Lyme disease in Argentina and the challenges patients face when the disease is not widely recognized.

Her study combined published scientific literature, patient questionnaires, and information from Argentina's Lyme patient network.

Research reviewed by Carugatti reports:
🦠 Borrelia bacteria detected in ticks from Patagonia.
🦠 A new Borrelia species identified in Chile and Argentina.
🦠 Human Lyme cases and infected animals documented in multiple regions of Argentina.
📍 Patient questionnaires also mapped tick bites across different parts of the country.

100% of patients in her study struggled to find a doctor trained in Lyme disease.
Without official recognition, patients may face delayed diagnosis, limited testing, and little public information.
