Mairela Garden

Mairela Garden I came to live here in 2003 to uncover and heal the aspects of myself that had led to ovarian cancer 3 years previously. The work continues and so do I.

The retreat garden represents the creative framework for anyone seeking similar possibilities www.mairela.com

A brief look around the garden between rain showers. Loving the proliferation of butterflies and bees. It's a pity that the aroma of the tree lilies can't be conveyed in this medium.

A warm sauna is a great way to unwind from the daily, yearly and lifelong woes. Rather like a temporary return to the warm womb.

I use a good quality ylang ylang essential oil in the steam water

Ylang ylang is known for assisting with muscle relaxation and so for those of us who unconsciously clench under duress it is a powerful ally to restore tension free balance.

Sitting warm and secure in the dim sauna it is easy to follow the path from relaxation to muscles letting go.

And as the muscles begin to let go they can rise above old habits that we hold in muscle memory (clenching and bracing) such that we might glimpse a trauma which occurred many years ago but still effectively terrifies in case it returns. Literally unable to escape the old freeze response.

This is a terrible double bind for the physical body to be trapped in. A cycle of trying to escape existential despair and just at each moment of "almost triumph" snapped back to freeze.

I found the right combination to unlock mine yesterday. A culmination of over 2 decades self discovery. I learned to listen to myself in that Sauna. Little wonder it is such an integral aspect of the Nordic Lifestyle.

How lucky am I to end up in a place such as this. No luck really. My grandmother understood this piece of forest and built a family from here.

Horizons are open in each and every direction.

Welcome to the new outdoor fish preparation station

Personally, I think that's the kind of thing that will almost guarantee that you'll never catch another fish ever again but what do I know! 😄

The Finns adore fishing so I'm sure it's essential 😁

So, I'm thinking about re-opening again but with a different slant to guests etc. No more "healing" work. Most that stuff relates to forgetting who you really are and not realising that in this day and age you are allowed to exist as yourself.

Sitting and staring at the light dancing on the water, and the lip lap sounds of the water beneath you whether you are stood on the wobbly jetty or in the ancient rowing boat would actually have been my recommendation to willing guests in the early days of my energetic everything days.......so fishing seems to fit seamlessly into the new safe space wherein we build the best life with the building blocks that we already have.

Watch this space! 😁

What kind of retreat could you have with this view

An opportunity to create your own flowerbed perhaps?

The usefulness of being here without your mundane daily masks on (you are not a parent/child, teacher/student, employer/employee, bad person/good person etc.) allows you to utilise the metaphorical storytelling strengths of the human mind at its finest.

The surrounding environment of the most powerful forces of nature that hold you in a state of fecund opportunity and reality that you need not even imagine that you control (because only the most deluded imagine they control the cosmic climate) Leaving you free to play with your full potential.

The garden is never perfect, it is never ready, it is never done, it is a constantly changing interaction mirroring back to yourself the most basic concerns that are currently running your life whether known or not.

The ultimate experience of delayed gratification, planting unknown futures that may or may not come to fruition, that may or may not satisfy that primordial itch that one cannot quite put a finger to.

Hands in the soil, soil in the hands, where do I end or begin. Do I?

Sitting quietly in nature, appreciating the delicate beauty of the poppies that will not last for long. This reminds me how transitory our entire life is even though it may seem so very long and endless at times.

Sometimes when sitting and reading one of my books I am inspired by a particular sentence and I take the time to put the book down and follow the thread.

This morning was one such moment. The protagonist had somebody with all the time in the world to sit and listen to their story and understand them.

This reminded me of a lot of my life when I desperately wanted to be heard and understood by somebody, and the fact that nobody seemed to want to do that made me frustrated and furious and desperate and needy (with the added social pressure of "never let anyone know that you are needy") etc.

It is only very recently that I have begun to see such behaviour as the desperate plight of a child. It was during covid time that I really began to appreciate that everyone was overloaded with stuff and was fighting the same battle to stay afloat that I was. I wasn't special at all!

That might have caused me to drown and expire. And in a way it did. But there is also a wonderful point that we reach just before death's door when all else has been stripped away and there are just two elements left. To be or not to be. That really is the question!

Turns out that there was one person that would listen to me and understand me and therefore be able to help me create a better life for myself going forward......and that person was me!

Since my cancer diagnosis in 2000 launched me into the world of self discovery I had become familiar with my internal village, I had reached understandings of what each character and building was trying to achieve.....and they were all credible ideas, excepting that they were based on what I had supposed the world at large had tried to show me during my formative years.

Regardless of what I was taught or what I believed I was taught, now was clearly the time to grow, to become an adult and begin the process of parenting the inner child aspect of myself in respect to the world I found myself living in right under my feet in that there moment.

The consistency my inner child needed wasn't found in a timetable, instead it was found in my desire to keep on understanding what was really going on, my desire to allow all emotions without comment, my ability to create a safe feeling in which to patiently (that was difficult) stand back and create an environment in which the inner child could unfold and emerge naturally in the world we have right here right now.

That involved a lot of trauma finding oneself on a planet that experts said would soon burn and yet so called world leaders didn't seem to be doing anything about that. I can't think of anything more existentially horrifying and yet that was our starting ground.

Rebuilding the outlier aspects of self without disappearing into them as an escape has taken a very long time in some ways and yet in other ways not so much as my actual childhood was a training ground for energetic escape and manipulation (of parents mostly) to create safer spaces to exist in. We don't throw baby out with the bath water, we adapt what we have.

In fact, working with what I have rather than constantly chasing that which I don't have has saved me an awful lot of energy.

So I hope you enjoy my poppies swaying in the breeze and maybe awaken your own little inner thread that leads to some deeper of understanding that just might save some energy and give back you to you. The world needs you just as you are.

Merry Midsummer!

A further look around to show the impression that pure nature can bring to an occupied space, especially when Dobby dog pops into the picture occasionally. Dobby is a wonderful bridge for those who struggle to articulate their feelings.....and who doesn't!

A brief look around the surroundings of The Storybook House
Why a Storybook House?
Because right now we are living our lives based on a story that is almost certainly not our own and not serving our own true neuro-consciousness
Set in an area of awesome natural beauty within a land that holds Nature as the true Faith this whimsical garden offers a boundaried retreat from the mundane life such that one can explore all present and hidden possibilities of self.
You arrive here
You are no-one's parent
You are no-one's child
You are no-one's employer
You are no-one's employee
You are no-one's teacher
You are no-one's student
Leave all those masks at the end of the lane by the postbox
Collect them back up on your way back home with all that you have discovered of yourself in retreat in a powerful environment that asks nothing of you

Swim
Sauna
Row
Walk
Sleep
Write
Paint
Rant
Cry
Laugh
Be thoroughly "inappropriate" (permission slips can be written if that helps)

Think about it
Are you afraid of what you might discover of yourself?
Are you afraid of surviving the rest of your life rather than living it?

Look after yourself
For you are truly worth it
