A few days ago, one of Finland’s largest news and media outlets, Iltasanomat, published an article about EFT tapping with the headline:
“Like ultra-short therapy”
The article described how many people have found surprising relief from stress, insomnia, anxiety and pain through a method that is easy to try at home. A psychologist interviewed for the article said you may notice a clear change in as little as 15 minutes.
The psychologist, pain psychologist and psychotherapist Juha Siira put into words something I come across again and again in my work:
“A person can let go of an emotional state that has troubled them for decades in just 15 minutes. That can be difficult to accept if you’re used to thinking that a long-standing problem requires long-term treatment.”
There is already so much information about EFT available in Finland that I sometimes wonder why more people don’t give it a try.
Do we want to outsource our wellbeing entirely? Or are we afraid of what might happen if we start working with our own emotions?
Some of my clients tell me they are afraid of “dwelling on their feelings”. But they often realise quite quickly that avoiding emotions is actually a form of being controlled by them.
No one has collapsed or lost control of themselves while or after tapping. Instead, they feel lighter.
Rather than simply wondering why mental health-related sick leaves keep increasing, worrying about how we feel, or wondering when we might finally get an appointment with a therapist or doctor, what if we started doing something ourselves before things get really bad?
EFT is not a magic pill. And one short EFT session on YouTube isn’t going to solve everything.
But it can be a beginning and I absolutely encourage you to keep going.
The Iltasanomat article also referred to my book Mielenrauhaa EFT-menetelmällä and included a short EFT tapping exercise from the book for performance anxiety.
If learning about EFT on your own feels overwhelming, you can start with my book or book a one-to-one EFT session with me.
Here’s to taking a little more responsibility for our own wellbeing🌿
