Our students had the privilege of attending the panel discussion “Evidence, Dignity and Health: Harm Reduction in Fiji’s HIV Response” at the Grand Pacific Hotel, bringing together health leaders, advocates and key stakeholders to discuss evidence-based, respectful and human-rights-centred approaches to strengthening Fiji’s HIV response. It was a valuable opportunity for us as future healthcare professionals to learn, engage in meaningful dialogue, and reflect on the important role young people can play in reducing stigma, improving access to care and supporting a more compassionate and effective HIV response in Fiji.

The Pasifika Campus hosted a meaningful Talanoa Session for International Students, creating a welcoming space for students to connect, share experiences, and discuss important matters relating to student life and wellbeing. The session encouraged open dialogue, cultural understanding, and stronger student engagement within the campus community.

The event also provided students with the opportunity to build new friendships, strengthen support networks, and engage with fellow students in a positive and inclusive environment. It highlighted the importance of diversity, unity, and ensuring every student feels welcomed and valued on campus.

FNUSA remains committed to supporting and empowering students by providing platforms that promote inclusivity, unity, and student voice.

An incredible opportunity for Year 5 and 6 FNU medical students to attend the Fiji Medical Association central mini conference and be part of important conversations shaping the future of healthcare in Fiji and the Pacific. The theme, ‘Results Over Rhetoric,’ was a powerful reminder that meaningful change in medicine comes through action, evidence, collaboration, and service. We’re grateful to have learned from experienced clinicians, researchers, and leaders, and to gain insight into the challenges and progress within our healthcare system. Experiences like these continue to inspire us as medical students and future doctors committed to improving patient care and health outcomes.

A meaningful step forward for future healthcare leaders 🌿

Five Year 6 medical students from FNU had the opportunity to attend the West Mini Conference, “Make it Happen- Results over Rhetoric”, hosted by the Fiji Medical Association. The experience offered valuable insights into real-world medical practice, public health challenges, and the importance of collaborative leadership. Our students not only learned from seasoned professionals but also contributed their perspectives to ongoing discussions shaping healthcare in Fiji.

Opportunities like this highlight the importance of stepping beyond the classroom. We strongly encourage fellow medical students to engage in future conferences, register under the association after graduation to access member benefits, and actively build connections with key stakeholders in the field.

Growth in medicine doesn’t happen in isolation—it happens through shared knowledge, mentorship, and meaningful networking. 🌍

“Community love for mothers to be"

MBBS Year 5 obstetrics and gynaecology students, Marzana, Raijieli and Nivandita organised a sanitary pad drive that supports maternal health. During their time in labor ward, they noticed some mothers did not have pads to use during and after labor, which is essential for hygiene and comfort, which were also not freely available in the hospital. This drive aimed at providing mother with free sanitary pads if they needed them. The students successfully managed to collect and donate 1,127 individual pads to the CWMH labour ward. The students extend their greatest gratitude to everyone who supported this initiative.
