So the Fiji Government Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2026 includes a provision allowing “lawful and moderate chastisement” of children for the purpose of correction.
For those who don’t know what Chastisement means it is “a severe reprimand, strong verbal criticism, or physical punishment intended to correct bad behavior”.
How sad that Fiji’s 2013 constitution provided our children protection from “any form of violence” and now we’ve taken away that right from them.
Why can’t we take accountability as adults and work on our anger issues? Ask ourselves why do we instantly feel anger and rage towards a child instead of understanding and connection?
Instead we believe children are the problem and think hitting them, belittling them, smacking them, or throwing things at them is better and will help them learn 🤦🏾♀️
I am teaching my children that NOBODY is allowed to touch them.
So if anyone else other than me or their father wants to “chastisement” our children…..you better be ready to deal with me. I will fight any person that lays their hand on my child.
