Are you struggling to navigate through exam stress? Is the academic pressure getting to you?
You are not alone. This time can be really tough to get through.

These are the six steps to help you reduce stress in exam season:

1. Time management - plan your study sessions, break periods and time away from revision.
2. Balanced lifestyle - do not overwhelm your body and mind with exams/revision. Make sure you find time for friends and family, as well as the things you love.
3. Study techniques - everyone processes information differently, taking the time to find how you best learn and retain information will really help towards your final results.
4. Positive mindset - the mind is more powerful than you know, positive thinking can really help pull you out of rough patches when studying.
5. Break tests down - to make tests easier it can be helpful to break them down into smaller, more manageable chunks. The important thing is to take one question at a time and not let your mind wander to what is to come.
6. Seek help - you do not have to go through exam season alone, reach out to family or friends for support, contact your place of education, or seek professional mental help.

The five signs that you need to take a break, don’t ignore them! Self care doesn’t always look like face masks and drowning in salad, it can look like having a coffee with a loved one, turning off the laptop and reading a book, or something that simply feels like peace to you. The same energy and time that you put into your work, should also be put into your self care. Never underestimate what ignoring the signs can do to you. Take the break, have the coffee, be kind to yourself. For more information on mental health and contact info, visit our website: www.alivatherapy.com. Feeling overwhelmed? You are not alone.
Yesterday I chose to step away from my laptop and spend some quality time with my daughter over a coffee at GĂąteaux, Tusson.
It reminded me that taking time for yourself is worth the same attention as your work.

Stepping back for a moment to take a breather is an excellent form of self care.

A Little Light from my Therapy Room...

This week has felt like a metaphor. After days of relentless rain and flooding across the region, we have enjoyed some beautiful sunshine.

The mornings are getting lighter.
The sunsets are back — soft gold and pink pouring across the sky again.

It is amazing how quickly light can change the atmosphere.

In therapy, I see this too.
There are seasons that feel heavy, overwhelming, flooded.
And then, gradually — sometimes quietly — something shifts.

A little more clarity.
A little more steadiness.
A little more hope.

Sitting in my therapy room this week, watching the sunset through the window, I am reminded:

The rain doesn’t last forever.
And neither do the hardest of seasons.

You can survive the flood.
You can sit through the grey days.
And the lighter mornings will come.

And when they do, even a small change in light can feel like hope.

A decision was clearly made here.

This made me laugh at first, but then it made me pause. I saw the human being behind the decision, the pain and stress, the tired body, the busy mind, comfort, habit, hope gone again.

Struggling to lose weight or to be the best version of you, is not a decision that is won or lost in a supermarket aisle. But shame often is.

It is in these moments when compassion not judgement is needed the most. Despite so much misinformation out there, weight loss is not about motivation.

When we have suffered trauma, or when we are stressed or exhausted or emotionally depleted, the brain doesn’t reach for long term goals - it reaches for comfort and familiarity. That isn’t weakness or laziness, it’s biology.

As a weight loss coach I see this every day. Sustainable change only happens when the right support and evidence-based tools are in place - tools that work with the brain, not against it. When we address what is happening beneath the surface and replace shame with understanding, behaviour changes naturally. Not through force or motivation but through safety, skill and the right kind of compassionate guidance.
