Sometimes shrinking feels almost physical.
Your breathing becomes shallow,
your body tightens,
and suddenly you are very aware of everyone around you.
The world feels bigger, more imposing somehow.
And you feel smaller.
Less confident.
As if others know better, understand more,
or belong more easily than you do.
And yet, deep down, I know this is not really who I am.
I know I am capable.
I know I perceive emotions and subtle things that many people miss.
I know I have an intuition and a freedom that is real.
So what is happening in those moments?
What I have come to realise is that shrinking is often something we pick up from others.
As sensitive people we feel when someone else doubts themselves,
when they are trying to appear stronger than they feel,
or when they quietly carry the feeling of not being good enough.
Sometimes we absorb it in the moment.
And sometimes we have integrated it long ago into our belief system,
so that we keep repeating it without even realising.
And as sensitive souls, many of us have also learned to give too much importance to others —
to their reactions, their opinions, their presence.
Little by little, we forget to stay connected to ourselves.
But the truth is much simpler.
We all have value.
Each in our own way.
In a healthy world we are not competing for space.
We are complementing each other.
No one needs to be bigger.
No one needs to be smaller.
We only need to be ourselves.
And when we return to that place, something very natural happens.
Our breath deepens again.
Our presence returns.
And with it, our quiet joy.
Sometimes it begins simply by noticing:
“I am shrinking… and this is not truly me.”
Then we breathe.
Come back to yourself.
Remember the real size of your being.
And little by little, you expand again.
