I don't want to take the yoga out of yoga and I don't want to give you a beige menopause-friendly workout with a few breathing exercises tacked on.

Because yoga has so much more to offer us than that.

Yes, the physical practice matters.

We need strength.
We need mobility.
We need balance.
We need to look after our bones, muscles and joints.

But we also need ways to work with what’s happening in our brains and nervous systems.

When brain fog has you losing your train of thought for the third time in a conversation, practising focused attention matters.

When your nervous system is activated, learning to notice it and stay steady within the challenge matters.

When the world feels LOUD and you're overwhelmed by everyone's needs, practising turning your attention inwards matters.

And when sleep is rubbish, energy is low and everything feels like a bit more effort than it used to, having practices that help you pause, breathe, rest and reset matters.

This is what SoulShine is about.

Not fixing you.

Not optimising you.

Not giving you another list of things you should be doing during perimenopause.

It's about giving you a rainbow of tools.

Tools to help you move more easily.
Build strength and confidence in your body.
Think more clearly.
Manage stress and overwhelm.
Sleep better.
Have more energy.
And feel more capable of handling the ups and downs.

Because your yoga practice doesn't have to stay on the mat.

That's the bit I really want you to have.

I don't want to take the yoga out of yoga.

I want the movement.
I want the breath.
I want the stillness.
I want the challenge.
I want the bits that make you think.
I want the bits that strip you back to what's real.

I want yoga to help you feel stronger, steadier and more mobile.

But I also want it to give you tools for navigating the messy, brilliant, sometimes utterly baffling business of being human.

Because yoga is more than what your body does on a mat.

And I don't think we need to choose between making yoga accessible and honouring what yoga actually is.

That's what you'll find here. Yoga beyond the poses, practical tools for midlife, and a little less bu****it about what you should be doing.

And if you want to start with something practical, my Flex Without the Fluff guide is free.

A no-nonsense guide to moving more freely after 40, plus 3 free Element Space sessions to put it into practice.

Comment FLEX and I'll send them to you (yes, genuinely from me not some automated bot churning this stuff out)

Another beautiful yoga hike yesterday ✨️ thank you to all you who came yesterday 💜

These monthly yoga hike meet ups have become one of my favourite monthly events, and it's down to those who come for making them such a joy to run.

We start with a bit of muscle activation and a stretch (how often do we do this when we go for a hike normally? Be honest!)

The walk is filled with people chatting, catching up and checking in with friends, lots of laughter, and support and encouragement.

Because when you get a group of fabulous women together, this is what happens: we lift each other up.

The yoga section is a quieter, more reflective part. The opportunity to be present in our bodies while we work on mobility and flexibility, and focus on our breath.

And always, always, food is an important part of the morning.

If you fancy joining me for the next one, keep your eyes peeled, I'll be setting a date soon 😊

Jaw tight? Neck stiff? Shoulders somewhere around your ears?

This one’s for you, my lovely!

Jaw, neck and shoulder tension often go together, and when we’re stressed, tired, not sleeping brilliantly or spending a lot of time sitting, it’s really easy to start holding tension here without even noticing.

And for many of us, perimenopause seems to be the point where all of this suddenly becomes a lot more noticeable.

So I’ve put together a few of my favourite movements to help you move, strengthen, stretch and release this whole area.

It's about giving your body a bit more strength, mobility and flexibility, as well as releasing tension.

You don't need a 60 minute yoga class to do that.

A few minutes here and there can be enough to remind your shoulders they don't need to live permanently next to your ears. 😂

Save this one for later, especially if you’re currently reading this with your jaw clenched and your shoulders up around your ears.

You know who you are. 😉

And my one last thought on necks...you don't have to look up in a yoga pose, despite a cue. Sometimes looking up involves an unnatural twist or turn of the neck that can cause more tightness.

I love a cue where I can drop my ear to my shoulder, and keep the openness in my chest ✨️💜

Shoulder + tricep stretch/flossing
A little movement in and out of the stretch rather than forcing yourself to hold one position. Great for working on shoulder mobility and flexibility.

Chest opener with shoulder stretch
Lovely for opening up across the chest and shoulders, with a bonus stretch through the neck. Particularly good if you spend a lot of your day sitting, driving or working at a desk.

Lying chest opener with a block
This one is much more passive. You get to lie down, let the block support you and allow the front of the body to open after all those hours spent sitting forwards.

Dolphin dips
These are about strength and range of motion. We’re moving the shoulders through a bigger range while asking them to work, because strong, mobile shoulders are much more useful than shoulders that can simply stretch.

One of the BEST self adjustments I ever learnt is this one!

Your masseter muscle is a huge part of jaw tightness, it is constantly in use with us talking and eating. And is the one that tightens when we grind our teeth, which is so common in perimenopause.

Get the end of your finger in to the part of your cheek where you can feel the muscle, it's where your upper and lower jaw connect.

If your jaw is tight, it may well feel quite sensitive.

You can move the end of the finger up and down, or in a circular motion. Or just let the head get heavy over the finger, and apply pressure without pushing.

Breathe deeply here.

Try this for 2-3 minutes each side.

And just notice what feels different.

Let me know how you get on in the comments 👇

Heyyy, hellooo 👋

I'm Kate, mum of two boys, in perimenopause and a yoga teacher.

First, I see you. Navigating perimenopause when you’re constantly exhausted, waking up at 3am, and feeling like your body is fighting against you is heavy. It’s hard, and your frustration is 100% valid.

I see you because I'm in this too. Just when I thought I'd got my sanity back after the toddler year, I got a BIG surprise when perimenopause kicked in...sanity though, really?!!!

But here’s a bold truth: This is not your 'new normal'. It’s just trying to navigate a whole new set of rules, and you don't have to settle for feeling like a ghost of yourself.

I specialise in yoga for menopause, and share real, actionable ways to help reclaim your deep sleep, restore your energy, and get moving without joint pain or stiffness.

Hit follow. Let’s be in this together, insanity and all 🤪🤪🤪🤣
