🎯 The 7th Mental Health Dialogues!
Today, Dr. Habib Nasser from RDIUP proudly represented the Horizon SMILE project during an inspiring panellist session alongside our European sister projects .

With his extensive background in AI tool development, data analytics, and cross-sector synergies, Habib shared SMILE's vision on a crucial challenge: How can we effectively translate complex academic and technological outputs into meaningful, real-world impact for non-academic audiences?

With EU Tracker ( https://www.eutracker.app/login ), we believe that pushing the boundaries of AI is key to addressing emerging challenges in engaging stakeholders and KER-based dissemination pathway, especially in the crucial sector of healthcare and mental well-being.

On 14 May 2026, the Mestna občina Maribor, together with the Upper Secondary School of Traffic Maribor, successfully organised a Mental Health Day dedicated to supporting the mental well-being of young people, parents, and school employees.

The event brought together 320 participants, highlighting the growing importance of open dialogue around mental health in schools and communities.

The programme included expert lectures and interactive workshops covering:
🧠 Youth mental health
📱 The impact of digital technologies and excessive internet use
💬 Stress management and self-confidence
🔍 Early recognition of mental distress
📚 Attention, learning, and focus in a distracted world

Psychologists, mental health experts, educators, and specialists shared practical knowledge and encouraged discussions on creating healthier and more supportive environments for young people.

This initiative, organised within the SMILE project demonstrated the importance of cooperation between schools, local authorities, and mental health professionals in promoting well-being and resilience among youth 🌱

The Mestna občina Maribor has successfully completed the Smile Workshops programme, focused on strengthening well-being, mental health, communication, and interpersonal relationships.

From December 2025 to May 2026, our partner organised a series of workshops covering:
✔️ Mental health in the workplace
✔️ Stress and emotion management
✔️ Communication and relationships
✔️ Inner stability and resilience
✔️ Coping with difficult life events

More than 100 participants joined the shorter workshop sessions, while around 30 participants actively attended the longer workshop cycle throughout the programme.

The final workshop, “Coping with Difficult Life Events,” took place on 14 May 2026 at Vetrinjski dvor, concluding an impactful learning journey that created open discussions and practical tools for everyday well-being at work.

Our panellist from Sister Project , Rainer Mere is a is a at Nõmme Health Clinic and a project manager at ERSI, specialising in workplace well‑being and organisational mental health. He brings extensive experience in developing and managing worksite wellness programmes, supporting both executives and employees through evidence‑based coaching and tailored well‑being strategies.

He also serves as the iFightDepression tool implementation coordinator within the European project , helping expand access to digital mental health resources across Europe. Alongside his project work, he is a guest lecturer at Tallinn University and an active member of the Union of Estonian School Psychologists, contributing to the advancement of mental health practice and education.

Our panelist from sister project , Laura Taylor is a Professor in the School of Psychology at University College Dublin. Her research is framed by an intergroup developmental approach to study risk and resilience processes for in settings of protracted conflict.

Her work has implications for child outcomes, such as aggression, prosocial behaviours and social identity, as well as broader psychosocial processes, such as shared education and intergroup relations, which may fuel or constrain conflict. Toward this end, she studies how and why violence affects behaviours and attitudes related to conflict transformation, primarily during childhood and adolescence.

Our panellist from sister project project, Dr. Naim Fanaj is a , , and at Alma Mater Europaea Campus College Rezonanca; Prishtina, Kosovo, with a PhD in . He brings extensive clinical leadership experience, having served for eight years as the Director of the Community Mental Health Service in Prizren, .

A widely published author and frequent speaker at European and global congresses/conferences, Dr. Fanaj’s research interests include , , , , , , and . In addition to his academic and clinical roles, he has acted as a local consultant for the Council of Europe regarding persons deprived of , and has extensively engaged in working groups of the Ministry of Health on the Mental Health Law and clinical guidelines.

He is currently a Principal Investigator for the NGO Për Mendje të Shëndoshë ( ) on the EU Horizon research and innovation projects project and Project, and previously also was PI for in the successful implementation of the and .

Our panelist from sister project , Faith Thompson works at the Trimbos-instituut in the Netherlands as part of the Public Mental Health team, specialising in international mental health policy, interventions, and system change. Her work centres on translating complex mental health concepts and frameworks into clear, practical outputs for policymakers and other key stakeholders.

She leads Policy Translations, Sustainability, and Scale-Up within the project and contributes to several international initiatives, including Joint Action , the project, and the programme in Moldova. She also coordinates, in partnership with EuroHealthNet Group, the Thematic Working Group on Mental Health and previously supported the evaluation of Joint Action .

She holds an MSc in Social Policy and Public Health from Utrecht University and a first-class honours degree in Sociology, specialising in research methods, from the University of Warwick
