Before / After – Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy with OPUS®
This clinical case from DH Kassem Sindian demonstrates the impact of evidence-based non-surgical periodontal therapy and the importance of a collaborative partnership between clinician and patient in achieving successful periodontal outcomes.
A 36-year-old patient presented with periodontitis, exhibiting periodontal probing depths of 4–5 mm, extensive subgingival calculus deposits, bleeding on probing affecting more than 50% of sites, and inflamed, enlarged interdental papillae.
Treatment was delivered using OPUS® as part of stepwise non-surgical periodontal therapy, comprising professional mechanical plaque removal (PMPR), subgingival instrumentation, and personalised oral hygiene instruction to facilitate effective patient-performed plaque control and sustained oral health behaviour change.
🦷Four months later:
✔️Resolution of gingival inflammation
✔️Marked reduction in bleeding on probing
✔️Periodontal probing depth reduction of up to 2–3 mm
✔️Improved periodontal stability and tissue health
This case reflects the principles of the EFP S3 Clinical Practice Guidelines, demonstrating that successful periodontal outcomes rely on evidence-based professional care, effective patient-performed plaque control, and sustained oral health behaviour change.
Successful periodontal therapy is a partnership between the clinician and the patient. Evidence-based professional treatment, combined with effective daily patient-performed plaque control and sustained behaviour change, leads to healthier long-term periodontal outcomes.
When combined with evidence-based clinical protocols and effective patient-performed plaque control, OPUS® provides clinicians with an effective approach to delivering periodontal therapy through the minMAX philosophy: min Invasive, Max Preservation.
