Stopped by the sculpture show at Sylvester Manor to see my friend and favorite east coast artist, Justin A. Kenney. His piece, Capacious Weather, looked beautiful in the sunshine. Congrats! Such a great show.

Celebration of 2026 Chauncey Fellowship recipients Avery Maples and Thara Joseph, both from Yale University. Avery will use her creative year to commission “healing bowls” for hospitals, elder care centers, and shelters with inscriptions of Psalms inspired by her native Cherokee spirituality. Thara will record conversations that communicate the relationship between Black women and time in a multimedia public art project. Former recipients came to celebrate the new awardees and discuss their projects and experiences. Sam Chauncey was also there to congratulate the new fellows.

What a thrill to find my book on the shelves of The American Library in Paris. This library is over 100 years old and the largest English-language lending library on the European continent. It was created during WWI to bring books to American soldiers in France fighting in the trenches. After the war, the library camps were dismantled, and this library was created to house the millions of books that had passed through the camps. The library’s motto is: “After the darkness of war, the light of books.”

Congratulations to Chauncey Fellow 2025 recipients! This year Julien Sanchez-Levallois of So. State University of CT will be able to pursue his dream of writing and directing an independent film set in New Haven and Anya AitSahlia of Yale University will be able to pursue her project to bring musical activities to children in long-term hospitals. The. Chauncey Fellowship allows recent graduates of the greater New Haven colleges to pursue a passion project for one year, fully funded, after graduation.

My office buddy, Finn. During the winter months, he’s either curled up on my lap when I’m working or sitting by the warm fire I’m lucky to have in my home office. And he likes a warm coat when it’s time for a break. ❄️
