A self regulating nervous system is a privilege.

This post isn’t here to scare people away from therapy or encourage mistrust. But instead, to help people recognize when something feels off, ask better questions, and understand that discomfort in therapy is not always “resistance” or “being difficult.”

There are many caring, thoughtful, ethical therapists doing important work. All humans also deserve language for the things that get minimized, normalized, or hidden.

This workshop explores how family environments, cultural expectations, and past events can influence emotional patterns across generations.

What we will do during the session:

• grounding - optional art therapy
• short intro to transgenerational trauma
• discussion about common family roles and patterns
• reflection on Mediterranean / North African family dynamics and silence around difficult experiences
• convos and exercises to explore hidden family messages and patterns

This is a reflective group workshop, not therapy.
Come as you are, sharing is healing.

Winnicott believed that when a child’s emotional needs aren’t consistently met, they may start to:
• Hide their real feelings
• Suppress spontaneous impulses
• Act in ways that please caregivers
• Become what others expect

Over time, this protective adaptation becomes the false self.

Common roots:
• Emotional neglect (even subtle)
• Inconsistent caregiving
• Trauma
• High expectations
• Needing to be “the easy one,” “the smart one,” or “the strong one”

It can also develop in neurodivergent people who learn to mask to survive socially. We call that Masking.

When my client chooses me to sit with their story, that's a privilege and a responsibility.

You can't learn mental health, get a degree and claim you know all there is to know about mental health, just like the world shifts and changes, so does the psyche and psyche related research and tools.

I’m proud I followed through.
