📚 The Body Keeps the Score

A thought-provoking read exploring how experiences and trauma can affect both mind and body, and why understanding ourselves matters.

Narcissistic abuse can be difficult to recognise because it often doesn't begin with obvious signs.

Over time it can involve manipulation, self-doubt, confusion, emotional invalidation and feeling like you've lost trust in your own instincts.

If you constantly find yourself questioning your reality or feeling emotionally drained, it's important to know your feelings matter.

Healing starts with understanding. 🤍

Neurodivergent app recommendation:

Have you heard of Dubbii?

Created by ADHD Love, Dubbii uses body doubling — a technique where someone works alongside you to help make everyday tasks feel more manageable.

For many neurodivergent people, starting tasks can feel overwhelming. Dubbii helps break things down into smaller steps and offers support with things like routines, household tasks and reducing overwhelm.

Sometimes support isn’t about doing more — it’s about finding tools that work with your brain, not against it. 🤍

Have you tried it?

I’d recommend listening to The Diary of a CEO episode with Johann Hari: “Everything You Think You Know About Meaning & Happiness Is Wrong.” It explores loneliness, connection, purpose and how modern life can affect our mental wellbeing.

One message that really stands out is the importance of human connection and understanding that mental health isn’t only about what's happening inside us — our environment and relationships matter too.

Sometimes hearing open conversations like these can help us pause and reflect on our own wellbeing. Have you listened to it? 🤍💙💜💛

Inspirational Quote of the Day

✨ "You don't have to have it all figured out to take the next step."

Sometimes we put pressure on ourselves to have all the answers. Healing, growth and understanding ourselves rarely happen all at once.

Be kind to yourself today. One small step is still progress. 🤍

“As Tigger once said: ‘I thought I was a one of a kind until I looked around at my friends and realised they are just as disturbed as I am.’”

A light-hearted reminder that we’re all a little different—and that’s okay.

Finding your people, your “tribe,” can make all the difference. 💛

🔴🟢 A simple wellbeing tool

Try this:

Write out your usual week and label each activity:
🔴 Red = drains your energy
🟢 Green = recharges your energy

Then reflect—can you reduce some red and increase the green?

Awareness is the first step toward balance. 🌿

👋 Putting a face to the name

Hi, I’m Catherine, the person behind Aberdeen Bespoke Counselling.

I know reaching out for support can feel like a big step, so I believe it’s important you know who you’re talking to.

I offer a warm, down-to-earth space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported at your own pace.

🧠 Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN)

Sometimes it’s not what happened to us—but what didn’t happen.

Growing up without enough emotional support or validation can leave lasting effects, even if everything “looked fine” on the outside.

This is an area I specialise in, and something many people are only just beginning to understand in themselves.

You’re not alone—and it can be worked through. 💙
