I've got gadgets and gizmos a plenty.... but they can't replace a sports massage.
Compression boots
Massage guns
Roller sticks
Foam Rollers
Spikey Balls (of various shapes and sizes)
There are a number of great tools out there to help reduce tension within the muscles and improve circulation, however they don't replace the hands of work of a sports massage therapist.
Compression boots are a fantastic tool to use post exercise to encourage lymphatic drainage, however they are not targeted to any ni**les or areas that may need extra attention.
Massage guns are a great tool to stimulate blood flow, the percussive striking of the tissue is great to awaken muscles as well as the nervous system ahead of an activity, but again they lack sensitivity and are often over used. They cannot assess an injury or ni**le and can often cause more irritation than is needed.
Roller sticks, foam rollers and spikey balls are a great self massage tool for myofascial release, aiming to reduce tension, however people often find these too uncomfortable or awkward to use.
Sports Massage is more than just easing tension, assessment and expertise cannot be replaced by these tools so if you are struggling with an injury, get it assessed early on to help speed up your recovery!
