7 things you need to know about me as your fitness instructor.

1. I have an unhealthy attachment to my cocker spaniel, Oscar. He will be in class and loves belly rubs.

2. Although I like Pilates, yoga is my first love. Luckily you don't have to choose because I teach both.

3. I love to bake and I will never use protein powder in my bakes because it tastes like s**t, and what's the point of a healthy treat if it doesn't actually taste like a treat.

4. I will pick sunset over sunrise every time. That golden hour before the sun sets on holiday is my favourite time of day. I also don't like getting up for 6:30am classes, but I do love to see your smiley faces in the morning.

5. Ibiza is my favourite place in the world, and one day, I will host a retreat there. Please help me manifest this!

6. I struggle with how short life is and have said since I was a child that I want to live healthily until I'm 100. That's why movement is so important to me. It is one of the top 3 ways to improve longevity.

7. I've always wanted to own my own business, I chose to open a fitness studio because I genuinely believe exercise will change your life.

I broke my foot in less than 2 seconds.

I'm annoyed at myself and frustrated I can't work on my fitness goals.

I could spend the next 12 weeks of recovery wishing i took a different route or didnt even go out at all.

Or any other number of possibilities that wouldn't have led to my broken foot.

BUT...

None of that will help me so here's the lesson that you can use whenever life gets in the way.

Remember that exercise isn't something you do once or for 6 weeks before your summer holidays.

This is a lifelong commitment.

There is no before and after only during.

And anyway i'm kinda excited for how strong my upper body will get in the next 12 weeks.

Because there is always something you can do even if it isn't perfect.

Changing your mindset on what fitness actually means in the long run removes the stress of thinking about what you should and shouldn't be doing when it comes to exercise.

All movement counts whether you do it perfectly.

Or whether it's doing bicep curls and shoulder press because you can't stand on one foot.

The ladies at my studio constantly tell me this is the longest they've ever stuck to exercise.

I guarantee every single one of them have had weeks where they couldn't make all their classes.

Or they turned up tired and drained and just did half of what they normally would.

Something is always better than nothing.

When you realise that you have to do this for the rest of your life you stop stressing over the tiny details.

Exercise is rubbish for losing weight, let me explain.

Exercise accounts for only 5-15% of your calories burn for the day, and most fitness trackers way over estimates how much you burn during your workout.

But if you focus on exercise as a way to improve health and increase specific abilities in the body e.g. running faster, being able to do a pull up, then you will be way more likely to stick to exercise regardless of your body size and what you ate that day.
