Say hello to Duthie. 🌿

The Second Floor at Pitfodels Wood takes its name from another well-known part of Aberdeen, chosen not by us, but by pupils from the school next door.

As part of our floor-naming project with International School Aberdeen, students across the school were invited to suggest names inspired by local places and landmarks.

Grade 5 chose Duthie, and their suggestion was selected as one of the three winning names.

The idea behind the project was simple. We wanted Pitfodels Wood to feel connected to Aberdeen before the doors even opened, and giving our young neighbours a genuine role in shaping the home felt like a pretty good place to start.

Now Duthie sits proudly on the Second Floor, and the pupils who suggested it have left their own little mark on the home for years to come.

The partnership won’t stop at naming floors either. With International School Aberdeen right next door, we’re looking forward to building regular intergenerational activities and connections once residents begin moving in.

From a school idea to a permanent part of Pitfodels Wood. 💚

Earlier this year, pupils from the neighbouring International School Aberdeen were invited to help name the floors at our new Pitfodels Wood Care Home.

Each year group explored local places and landmarks before putting forward their suggestions, with the final names chosen by our judging panel.

The name selected for our First Floor was Ferryhill, suggested by Grade 9.

Now, that idea has made the journey from the classroom to the walls of the home.

Over the next few posts, we’ll be sharing each of the winning names and the Aberdeen places that inspired them, starting here with Ferryhill.

It’s a small detail, but one we really love. Before our first residents have even moved in, local young people have already helped shape the identity of Pitfodels Wood and become part of its story.

Sometimes the biggest impact starts with being the first to say yes. 💜

Pitfodels Wood Care Home has become the first business to support Wish Ambulance Scotland’s 500 Wishes Campaign, donating £500 to help this brilliant new Aberdeen charity get off the ground.

Wish Ambulance Scotland is being created by three Aberdeen paramedics with one simple aim: to help people approaching the end of life make one final meaningful journey to a person, place or event that matters to them. A favourite coastline. A family home. A wedding. A football ground. Somewhere that still means everything.

That really resonated with us.

Because great care is about more than what happens inside four walls. It’s about dignity, choice, connection and helping people hold onto the things that matter most.

Pitfodels Wood may be one of our newest homes, but becoming part of the Aberdeen community starts now. Supporting local organisations, building genuine relationships and backing ideas that can make a real difference is a big part of what we want this home to stand for.

We’re proud to be the first corporate supporter. Hopefully we’re very far from the last.
