My Journey to MaZzage:
For me massage therapy came as a later work career, having always worked directly with helping others for the last 17 years. I have supported adults with autism, mental health issues, those in recovery from addictions and I worked with many vul
nerable individuals experiencing difficult life circumstances. My passion to help others improve their life circumstances and connect with physical nature, ties in with learning massage therapy. In 2015-16 I gained my Diploma in Holistic Massage with Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology Level 4 with the Massage Training Institute (MTI). It was important for me to gain a high quality nationally recognised qualification, the diploma offered a diverse range of approaches and techniques and not rigid in copying routines. The theoretical part applied to the practical massage element was essential, to understand the physical effects of different massage techniques and adapt to each client depending on certain health conditions. I understand as a massage therapist, my own personal development and self awareness continues to be an important part of the journey. I have continued to be committed to ongoing learning, including attending retreats abroad and weekend courses at Samye Ling Monastery & Tibetan centre. I am passionate about body and mind health and wellbeing , and believe it is impossible to separate the two with massage therapy. Following on from my diploma study, I have undergone other training courses to add to the massage experience. These include: Indian Head Massage, Bamboo Massage, Reiki 1 & 2, Facial treatment, hands-free Deep Tissue and Hot Stones Massage. In October 2019, I travelled to Chiang-Mai to complete my Thai Massage training with Loi Kroh Traditional Massage and Yoga School. Unfortunately for me there has been a practice gap, with the Covid-19 pandemic following soon after. Currently I am not offering this as a standalone treatment but I am committed to doing so in the future, but can incorporate a few techniques where appropriate. My massage business started in West Lothian, doing massage at home but extending to travelling out to client's homes to provide treatments. Following this, I have also worked in a number of 4 + 5 * star hotel spas including Stobo Castle and Auchrannie Hotel Spa in Arran. I was also based in Applecross hostel, Highlands for the season. I provided massage treatments to a number of guests including hillwalkers, bikers and local people in need of some relaxation ! More recently late summer of 2022, I worked in the spa at Skibo Castle. In addition to this work, I have done some massage work at music festivals and public events.
