Great news: We're featured in this month's Men's Health UK!

We don't wait until we're injured to start looking after our physical health. So why do we wait until we're struggling to look after our mental health? That's the conversation I was honoured to have with the great team at Men's Health UK.

We often think of therapy as something you do when you've hit breaking point. But what if we started thinking about it like we think about the gym? We train our bodies consistently to improve our strength, resilience and to reach peak performance. Not because something has gone wrong, but because we want to function at our best.

Our minds deserve exactly the same investment. Whether it's improving confidence, managing stress, strengthening relationships, increasing focus or building resilience, therapy isn't just about overcoming difficulties. It can be about becoming the healthiest version of yourself.

I'm incredibly grateful to Men's Health UK for helping bring this conversation to a wider audience, and I hope it encourages more men to see mental wellbeing as something worth investing in.

Peak performance starts with your mind.

When considering online therapy, it is important to navigate around the different myths. One such myth is that online options are not as effective as in-person options. This is not true as the research shows us. There are some clients who have an affinity for the face-to-face connection with their therapist but this is purely preference. In some cases, online therapy can be more effective such as with clients who struggle with demanding roles, social anxiety, agoraphobia and social isolation. I deal with this topic at length in my recent blog (in the comments below).

🙌PSYCHOLOGY FOR THE HEALTHY!🙌

An important myth to debunk is that psychology and mental health care is not just for those in crisis or those with symptoms. Think of the athlete who trains for peak performance. They do not wait to train to manage health conditions or problems alone! Psychology is for the healthy too.

This is Transformative Psychology: you work toward your full potential, not just symptom relief. You work to improve your life even if you are satisfied with where you are. You look on ways to "level up." Psychology offers a unique and invaluable platform to facilitate and support this transformative journey.

Please reach out if you would like to explore Transformative Psychology sessions or just wanting to learn more. Psychology is not just for those with illness, it is for the healthy too!

BREAKING NEWS is hard to ignore in these current times. Whether you're on social media or just trying to meet with friends, geopolitical disaster and other crises can find you. This can often occur whether you are looking for it or not. It is extremely important at times like this to preserve your mental health. Even if you are an activist, preserve your mental health while taking action.

In this month's blog we look at how to optimise your mental health in times such as these when leaders make decisions that shake the foundations of the entire world. You are not alone in the distress and this will pass just like previous global events have. Reach out to book a session if you need!

The Winter Blues continues to affect so many people especially in the UK. Shifting circadian rhythms and greater social isolation leave many people feeling alone and lost during the winter months. This is ironic when so many struggle with this. DBT skills such as the IMPROVE and ACCEPTS skills offer a greater choice of tools in our self-regulation toolbox. When demotivation strikes, these activities set a great starting point to incorporate into a more manageable daily routine. They greatly assist with self-regulation and distress tolerance.

The UK winter not only brings a decline in temperatures, for many people it also is the start of a consistent decline in mood. What has been come to known as "Winter Blues" is actually what is called Seasonal Affective Disorder. This is characterised by depressive symptoms that correlate with specific seasons or times of the year.

Most people are unaware of how to manage this distressing time and emotions. The first step, is to start with taking a daily vitamin D supplement as this is depleted during periods with limited sunlight. For other management techniques, please see our blog on the Winter Blues.

As we draw the year to a close around this festive season, it can be easy to just get caught up in the current of family schedules, home DIY and other adulting tasks that we don't have the time for during work periods. You owe it to yourself to recharge and improve your over wellness. Optimizing your mental health with specific activities is crucial to avoiding burnout. If your answer is "That would be great but there is no time" then you this month's blog is definitely for you.

The festive season increases pressure on your time, energy and mood. Work responsibilities remain, family expectations rise and daylight hours diminish, increasing the risk of burnout. You need focused action to protect your mental health and reduce burnout symptoms.

If you have ever felt stuck with mental health symptoms, in your relationships or just in your life, I'm here to help you in a transformation you deserve.

Welcome to "Clarity Mind Therapy" - quality psychology delivered by myself, Clinical Psychologist Brandon Kayat. I conduct online therapy for adults in the UK as well as in-person sessions from my offices in the beautiful Abergavenny here in South Wales.

I also am able to work online with South African clients who are self-funded. Furthermore, I will be running group therapy periodically in the year.

I am a qualified HCPC Clinical Psychologist with over 18 years experience in the field of mental health. This experience ranges from working in hospitals, prisons, community centres, EAP services and the NHS to working in private practice successfully for the last 2 years. I also am an experienced public speaker for mental health across radio, podcasts, school talks and corporate training. This is driven by my passion for individual transformation through psychology- a deep desire to improve our lives and grow.

No matter who you are, I am here to accompany you on that journey of transformation as my practice is all-inclusive. Whether you are looking to improve challenging mental health symptoms or just trying to get out of a stuck point in your life or relationship, we can achieve this. I use a tailored approach to each client's unique problems. With my experience in Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Jungian Psychoanalytic Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Transpersonal Psychology, I am confident in my ability to help you to help yourself on the rewarding journey of self-improvement. I also offer group therapy.

I work with a range of conditions including anxiety, stress and burnout, OCD, Autism, ADHD, trauma and identity concerns and relationship issues among others. I work with all adults in the UK including members of the LGBTQ+ community, individuals and couples over the age of 18 years old. I have a passion and rich experience in men's mental health and I am an ideal therapist for any men who are hesitant to start therapy but wish to try. I work with all couples who are wishing to improve their relationships. I also am able to assist those who are having trouble with adjustment including expats as I myself have immigrated from South Africa. Finally, I have a special interest in dream analysis and interpretation in the context of the mind-body-spirit axis.

In the first few sessions we will gather the relevant information before working through a collaborative treatment plan. My warm, person-centred therapy approach is geared towards your goals and helping you achieve the life you want. It does not have to be an unfamiliar and daunting new start. When you are ready, I am here to help you achieve the transformation you deserve.
