Is live-in care more expensive than a care home?

It’s a question many families ask when they first start exploring care options for someone they love.

The answer is that care costs depend on the individual’s needs, where they live and the level of support required. Live-in care is often comparable to a care home, with so much included.

With live-in care, your loved one receives dedicated one to one support from a carer who lives with them in their own home.

That carer gets to know their routines, preferences, favourite meals, hobbies, habits and the little signs that something may not be quite right.

It means care feels personal, familiar and reassuring, not just practical.

At Mumby’s, we believe live-in care can offer families a wonderful alternative to residential care, helping people continue living safely, happily and independently in the place they know and love most - home.

If you’re weighing up care options for a loved one, our friendly team is here to talk things through.

Choosing live-in care is a big decision.

We know that welcoming someone into your home, or the home of someone you love, can feel like a huge leap of faith. That’s why we take so much care in selecting, training and matching our live-in carers.

At Mumby’s, every carer goes through a careful recruitment process, including interviews, reference checks and DBS checks, before completing our own training.

We also invest in our carers through ongoing professional development, including NVQs and diplomas in care, because when carers feel supported, valued and well prepared, they can give their very best to the people they care for.

But the right qualifications are only part of the story. We also look closely at personality, experience, interests and values, so we can match each client with a carer who feels right for them as a person. Families can view carer profiles, learn about their background and experience, and, where possible, meet them by video call before their placement begins.

At Mumby’s, we carefully select our carers so families can feel reassured from the very beginning.

Today is National Youth Day. It's a reminder that care and support are not only needed in later life. 💙

At Mumby’s, we provide personalised live-in care for people of all ages, tailoring support around each person’s individual circumstances, routines, needs and goals.

For younger adults, care may be needed after an accident, following surgery, while living with a disability, during illness, or as part of longer-term support at home.

Whatever the situation, our role is to help people feel safe, supported and able to live with as much independence, dignity and choice as possible.

Good care is never one-size-fits-all. It should feel personal, fit around real life and it should support the whole person, not just their care needs.

If you or someone you love would benefit from live-in care, our friendly team would be happy to talk through the options available. Send us a message.

A cup of tea can be so much more than a drink. 🫖💙

For someone receiving care at home, it can be a moment of comfort, connection and conversation. A chance to pause, share a memory, talk about the day, or simply enjoy a familiar routine with someone who truly cares.

This Afternoon Tea Week, we’re celebrating the small moments that make such a big difference.

At Mumby’s, our live-in carers are so much more than carers to the families they support. They become trusted companions, familiar faces and a reassuring presence in the home.

They notice the little things.
They make time for conversation.
They understand routines, preferences and personalities.
And yes, they know just how their client likes their tea.

Because great care is not only about practical support. It’s about helping someone feel safe, valued, understood and never alone.

If you’re considering live-in care for someone you love, our friendly team would be happy to talk things through.

Reviews like this mean so much to us 💙

They are a wonderful reminder of the difference the right live-in carer can make - not only through practical support, but through patience, understanding, experience and genuine connection.

Becky’s care helped this client feel settled, happy, well supported and able to build trust at her own pace. For her family, that reassurance is invaluable.

Lovely feedback like this is a true testament to the dedication of our carers, who take the time to understand each person’s needs, routines and personality so they can provide care that feels calm, familiar and personal.

A huge well done to Becky and thank you to this family for sharing such kind words.

Recovering from a stroke can feel overwhelming for the whole family.

Once someone returns home from hospital, they may still need support with everyday tasks, mobility, medication, rehabilitation routines and confidence.

Live-in care can provide calm, one to one support in the place your loved one knows best - their own home.

A live-in carer can help with practical care, safe movement, companionship, attending appointments and encouraging routines recommended by healthcare professionals.

It can also offer reassurance for family members, knowing their loved one is not facing recovery alone.

At Mumby’s, we provide compassionate, personalised live-in care to support stroke recovery at home.

If you’re caring for an older loved one, hot weather can bring extra worries ☀️

Older adults can be more vulnerable to dehydration, overheating and heat related illness, so small steps throughout the day can make a big difference.

Encouraging regular drinks, keeping the home cool and avoiding the hottest part of the day can all help your loved one stay safer and more comfortable.

It’s also worth keeping an eye out for signs that something isn’t quite right, such as dizziness, confusion, a dry mouth or dark urine.

Swipe through for simple hot weather tips to help keep someone you care about safe this summer💧

And if you’re starting to feel that your loved one may need more support at home, our friendly team are here to talk through your options.
