📚✨ Meet the Author at Bridge House ✨📚

This month’s Meet the Author was a real treat as we welcomed Oxfordshire author Duncan Saunders to Bridge House! 📖😊

Duncan is a fascinating storyteller with quite the varied life story — alongside being an author, he has been a teacher, professional wrestler, Church youth worker, carer, charity worker and martial arts instructor!

Duncan writes adventure, fantasy and science fiction,

We discovered more about two of Duncan’s novels, including The Guard Cat, a supernatural adventure set in a small English village during Christmas in the 1980s, involving snowstorms, mystery and a rather sinister threat! 🐈‍⬛❄️🎄

We also heard about Dinosaurs, Aliens and The Shop That Sells Everything, where an ordinary job in a department store turns into an extraordinary adventure involving dinosaurs, UFO parts, alien warriors and mysterious worlds! 🦖👽🛸

It was wonderful to hear about Duncan’s inspiration, his journey as an author and the stories behind his books, while enjoying plenty of conversation and shared love of a good story. ❤️

A huge thank you to Duncan for joining us and bringing a little bit of Oxfordshire’s literary magic to Bridge House! 📚✨

Our monthly Captain’s Table is a wonderful opportunity for our Home Manager, Marta, to sit down and dine with some of our newer residents and their relatives — creating a relaxed space to get to know one another, share stories and enjoy good food together. 💕🥂

This month, our Head Chef Denis created a delicious summer menu, filled with light, fresh and seasonal dishes — perfect for enjoying a taste of summer around the table. 🌸🍋🥗

It was lovely to see conversations flowing, laughter being shared and new connections being made over a beautiful meal. Because sometimes, the best way to get to know someone is simply to sit down, share a plate and enjoy a chat! ❤️

Who says it has to be December? Christmas can be magical any time of the year.

We brought a little tropical twist to Christmas for our summer party! ☀️🎅🍹

Our festive feast included:
🍹 Cranberry mocktails
🥪 Turkey & cranberry sandwiches
🌭 Pigs in blankets
🍉 Watermelon Christmas trees
🥧 Mince pies

With fantastic music, plenty of smiles and lots of festive fun, we certainly put the Merry in our summer Christmas! 🎶🎄😄

Hoy in the Bistro ♦️ ♠️ ♥️ ♣️…….with plenty of fun, laughter and friendly competition as our residents enjoyed a lively game of Hoy in the bistro! 🍀🎯

Hoy is always a much-loved favourite, and everyone was eager to listen carefully, keep an eye on their cards and mark off their numbers as they were called. The excitement grew with every number, with residents cheering each other on and celebrating whenever someone was close to completing their card! 😄🏆

It was wonderful to see how much everyone enjoys this familiar and entertaining game. From the concentration and anticipation to the smiles, laughter and friendly rivalry, Hoy brought everyone together for a fantastic morning of companionship and fun. 🌟

Perfect weather today for one of our favourite annual trips — a visit to the beautiful The Plough Inn, Long Wittenham 🌿☀️

We always receive such a warm welcome here, and it’s easy to see why we love coming back. A quiet, quaint village pub with the most beautiful setting, backing right onto the River Thames. 🌊🏡

A cheeky beer, some crisps and great company… honestly, what more could you need? 🍺🥔😄

Wish Wednesday ⛵️💙 🌟

This Wish Wednesday was all about combining two of Tony’s favourite things — sailing and walking! 🚶‍♂️⛵️

Tony is a keen sailor and, in years gone by, enjoyed sailing and racing with Oxford Sailing Club at Farmoor Reservoir. So, a visit back to Farmoor was the perfect way to bring back some wonderful memories while enjoying a lovely walk around the reservoir. 🌊💭

At 92, staying active is still one of Tony’s top priorities, so this special day gave him the chance to do something he loves, get some fresh air and exercise, and revisit a place that holds so many happy memories. 💙

🌸🎨 Creativity in Bloom at Bridge House 🎨🌸

We love supporting our residents to explore their creativity through a wonderful variety of art and craft activities. 🖌️✨

Today, our creative talents were blossoming as residents enjoyed creating beautiful flower paintings 🌷🌺🌻. From choosing colours and experimenting with different techniques to adding their own personal touches, everyone had the opportunity to express themselves and create something truly special.

Creative activities are a wonderful way to encourage self-expression, reminiscence, conversation and a sense of achievement — while most importantly, having fun along the way! 💕🎨

A beautiful reminder that creativity has no age limit. 🌸💫

Small houses, big memories and plenty of creativity! 💕🪴

Our Dolls House Club is a firm favourite at Bridge House, bringing residents together to work on our miniature projects while sharing stories, ideas and memories along the way.

From choosing colours and furnishings to creating tiny details and deciding exactly where everything should go, there’s always plenty to do — and plenty to chat about! 🖌️🪑🌸

It’s wonderful to see how a little miniature house can open the door to so many memories and conversations, while giving everyone the chance to be creative, make choices and enjoy that wonderful sense of achievement when another little piece comes together. 🏡💭❤️

After all, good things really do come in small packages! 😉

Thank you to Christine who donated us this dolls house, we have been so lucky with kindness from people letting us have their dolls houses 🏘️
