πŸ’œ Creating a Space for Remembrance, Reflection & Connection πŸ’œ

Following the loss of a valued resident, Nicholson House partnered with youth wellbeing charity The Abingdon Bridge to create a special memory and "chatty" bench, providing a safe space where residents and staff can come together to reflect, share memories, and support one another.

This meaningful initiative was made possible through the collaboration of residents, young people,
The Abingdon Bridge, and our dedicated All Care Extra Care team, who encouraged service users to get involved and will continue to promote the space as a source of comfort and support for both residents and colleagues.

What started during a difficult time has become a lasting reminder of the power of community, conversation, and connection. πŸ’œ

🌘✨ Enjoying the Eclipse Safely ✨🌘

A solar eclipse is a wonderful opportunity to pause, look up and appreciate the incredible world around us.

Whether you're watching with family, friends or members of your community, it's a chance to share a truly memorable experience together.

⚠️ Remember, never look directly at the sun during an eclipse without certified solar viewing glasses or appropriate viewing equipment, as this can cause permanent eye damage.

Taking medication correctly is an important part of staying healthy and independent.

Managing medication alone can become more challenging with age, illness or an unexpected injury but the right support can make all the difference.

Our trained care professionals can provide medication support and reminders, giving clients and their families peace of mind that medication is being taken safely and on time. πŸ’œπŸ‘

Sometimes it's not one big moment. It's the little things.

The unopened post on the sideboard.
The forgotten appointment.
The meals skipped because cooking feels like too much effort.
The phone calls that become less frequent.
The hobbies they once loved quietly fading away.

When a loved one is getting older, the signs they may need a little extra support are often subtle. They can appear gradually, making them easy to overlook until everyday tasks become increasingly difficult.

Starting a conversation early can make all the difference. Not about taking independence away, but about helping them keep it for longer.

πŸ’ Have you noticed small changes in a parent or loved one recently?

If you're unsure whether it's time to explore support, we're here to help you navigate the conversation and understand the options available.

🌑️ Heatwave Alert: Staying Safe While Caring in Hot Weather 🌞

With temperatures soaring, it’s more important than ever to look after both yourself and our service users. Here are some key tips for working safely in the community:

πŸ’§ Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day (even if you don’t feel thirsty) and encourage clients to do the same.

πŸ‘’ Protect yourself from the sun: Wear sunscreen, a hat, and lightweight, breathable clothing where possible.

🏠 Keep homes cool: Close curtains/blinds during the hottest part of the day and open windows when it cools down.

🧊 Look out for signs of heat exhaustion: Be aware of symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, nausea, or confusion, in yourself and clients. Report concerns immediately.

πŸ₯— Support light eating: Encourage small, cool meals (salads, fruit) rather than heavy foods.

🚿 Help clients stay cool: Use cool flannels, fans, or ensure access to cool showers where appropriate.

πŸ“± Stay connected: Check in regularly with the office if you have concerns about your safety or a client’s wellbeing.

πŸ’¬ Know when to escalate: If someone becomes seriously unwell, seek medical help immediately.
