Every funeral tells a story, and David's was a wonderful reflection of the man he was.

David enjoyed nothing more than a flutter on the horses. So, on the way to the service, his family made one final stop at his local Ladbrokes, where they placed a bet in his memory. Sadly it wasn't a winner this time, but we think David would have appreciated the gesture all the same. 🐎

As family and friends arrived at the crematorium, they were led by the moving sound of a lone piper, creating a truly poignant and memorable farewell.

The beautiful floral tributes also celebrated the passions that brought David and his family together, with one of the floral tributes featuring a nod to the football team supported by a different family member. Naturally, David's tribute proudly represented Burnley FC.

It was an honour to help David's family create a farewell that was so personal, meaningful and filled with love. Thank you to them for allowing us to share these special moments.

Today we had the privilege of saying goodbye to
💙 🤍 Duncan John Aspden 🤍 💙
21 January 1964 – 29 June 2026

Duncan was the beloved son of Brian and Eleanor, and a much-loved brother to Debbie and Carol.

He became one of the first residents of Roughlee Home over 40 years ago, where he built many lasting friendships and touched the lives of those around him. Before his health declined, Duncan attended college to learn British Sign Language and proudly shared his knowledge by teaching fellow residents every Friday morning.

Duncan had a lifelong passion for motorbikes, the Isle of Man TT Races, and was a devoted Blackburn Rovers supporter. Sadly, his Cerebral Palsy progressed rapidly over the past two years, but he remained deeply loved by his family, friends and the dedicated staff who cared for him.

His funeral service was held at Rough Lee Home, allowing him to be surrounded by the place and people who meant so much to him.

As a heartfelt tribute to Duncan's love of Blackburn Rovers, members of staff wore Blackburn Rovers ties, and beautiful blue and white floral tributes reflected his favourite team's colours. ⚽️

A beautiful and symbolic dove release also took place kindly provided by Dutton Doves 🕊️

Duncan will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. May he rest in peace.

☀️ **Attending a Funeral During the Current Heatwave** ☀️

With temperatures remaining high across the UK, we would like to gently remind those attending funeral services to take extra care of themselves and others.

While many people understandably wish to wear traditional funeral attire, it is perfectly acceptable to choose lighter, breathable clothing that remains respectful and appropriate for the occasion. Dark colours are not essential if the heat makes them uncomfortable.

Please remember to:
💧 Bring water and stay hydrated
🧴 Apply sunscreen if any part of the service is outdoors
🕶️ Consider a hat or sunglasses when appropriate
🌳 Seek shade where possible and take care if you feel unwell

We would also like to acknowledge our funeral teams, celebrants, drivers, bearers and cemetery and crematorium staff, who continue to carry out their duties with professionalism and dignity while wearing formal uniforms in challenging temperatures.

A little patience, understanding and kindness towards everyone working in these conditions is greatly appreciated.

Our thoughts remain with all the families we are privileged to support during this warm weather. Please take care of yourselves and one another.

Today we received the most beautiful flowers in memory of a truly loved lady. Each arrangement feels like a quiet tribute full of love, respect, and the many memories she leaves behind.

In their softness and colour, they reflect the warmth she shared with everyone who knew her. They remind us that even in loss, there is so much love surrounding her and her family.

Thank you to everyone who has sent flowers, kind words, and support. She will always be remembered, always be missed, and always be loved. 💜
