“I sat with my anger long enough… until she told me her real name was grief.”

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is…

“I’m just an angry person.”

Maybe.

Or maybe anger is simply doing the job it was designed to do.

Because anger is often a bodyguard.

It steps in when we feel hurt.
It shouts when we don’t feel heard.
It protects us when we feel rejected, frightened, ashamed or powerless.

The trouble is… if we only ever argue with our anger, we’ll never hear what it’s trying to protect.

As a psychotherapist, I’ve learned that beneath anger there’s often something much quieter…

Grief.
Fear.
Loneliness.
Disappointment.
A broken heart.

The anger isn’t the enemy.

It’s the messenger.

So instead of asking…

“How do I get rid of my anger?”

Try asking…

“What is my anger trying so hard to protect?”

Sometimes the emotion that’s shouting the loudest is simply trying to stop the one underneath from breaking your heart.

What would your anger tell you… if you listened long enough? 💚

All dysfunction, generational trauma & abuse

This illustration doesn't mean that every experience was the same, because some golden children are not bullies and actually have tried to protect the scapegoat & heal and end the cycle too

Many of them are the henchmen, flying monkeys & the hands-on enforcer of the narcissistic or emotionally immature parent, ensuring the scapegoated child always is reminded that we are unacceptable & unworthy.

Healing is coming to know that it was all a lie! 🫂

One of the hardest lessons in self-respect is realizing you don’t have to beg for a place in someone’s life.

Not for attention.
Not for effort.
Not for honesty.
Not for basic kindness.

If someone keeps making you feel confused, unwanted, or “too much,” that is information. You are allowed to step back without explaining your worth over and over again.

Choosing peace is not pride. Setting boundaries is not being difficult. Walking away from mixed signals is not giving up too easily.

Sometimes the most powerful glow-up is the quiet moment you stop chasing people who only notice you when you’re leaving.

You deserve relationships that feel safe, steady, and mutual. You deserve to be valued without performing for love. You deserve to look in the mirror and remember who you are.

Act like you know your worth today. Even if your voice shakes. Even if it feels unfamiliar. Even if the old version of you would have stayed.

In some families, pain is not processed.

It is buried.

Denied.

Explained away.

Turned into silence.

And then one child grows up feeling everything that everyone else avoided.

They feel the grief.

The anger.

The shame.

The emotional absence.

The wounds no one wanted to name.

This is often how generational trauma works.

It does not only pass through stories.

It passes through silence, coping patterns, parenting styles, emotional distance, fear, shame, and the things families refuse to talk about.

But healing begins when one person becomes brave enough to say:

“This happened.”

“This hurt me.”

“This shaped me.”

“And I do not want to pass it on.”

Breaking the cycle does not mean blaming everyone who came before you.

It means choosing awareness where there was denial.

Choosing truth where there was silence.

Choosing healing where there was survival.

If this resonates with you, I Didn’t Choose to Be Born explores childhood trauma, emotional neglect, dysfunctional family dynamics, generational wounds, and the healing journey of becoming the person who finally stops the pain from being passed down.
