Words can’t express how grateful I am to Lindale.
I first came to Birmingham in October 2023 from Hertfordshire. I was traumatised and experiencing drug psychosis, but with support I was able to get clean and begin my healing journey. Ian, who used to facilitate the groups — rest in peace — and Karen, my support worker, helped me immensely.
Unfortunately, I relapsed, but I was incredibly lucky to be given another chance at Lindale in February 2025. Craig, who led the groups, and Caz, my support worker at the time, were amazing. I managed to stay clean for seven months, but I didn’t follow all the suggestions — including avoiding relationships too early in recovery. What followed was the worst relapse of my life. Addiction truly is a progressive illness, and those suggestions are there for a reason.
Lindale saved my life for a third time in January 2026 when I was blessed with another opportunity to return. Jelena, who now facilitates the groups, is trauma-informed and helped me enormously, alongside the incredible volunteers. My support worker, Charlotte, was always there for me, and I don’t know what I would have done without them all.
I’ve also met some amazing women on this journey. Connection really is key in recovery.
I have now left Lindale and am living independently again. I’m grateful to have a daily programme of action and a daily reprieve from this cunning, baffling, and powerful disease. Life still gets difficult sometimes, but I now use the tools I learned at Lindale and CA to live a peaceful life beyond my wildest dreams — one day at a time.
Thank you, Lindale
