Peg loom weaving is one of the oldest known forms of
weaving. A simple, ancient practice that predates
industrial looms and was once found in homes across
the land. Using the magick of wooden pegs, fibre, and
our hands, we will step into this slow, rhythmic way of
making that our ancestors would have known well.

What to expect:

Master the ancestral art of peg loom weaving, perfect
for beginners and experienced makers alike. You'll be
working with raw sheep fleece, learning how to prepare
and weave it into stunning pieces. By the end of the
workshop, you'll have crafted your own sit mat to take
home.

🚨 A Derbyshire MP is calling on major UK retailers and supermarkets to suspend the sale of disposable barbecues this summer in a bid to reduce the risk of wildfires across the country.

It follows the break out of two large-scale wildfires across Derbyshire and Greater Manchester in recent weeks, at Tintwistle Moor, near Glossop.

With disposable barbecues being a leading cause of wildfires in the UK, High Peak MP Jon Pearce is now calling on retailers to withdraw disposable barbecues from shop shelves over the remaining summer months.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Executive of Tesco, Mr Pearce has asked for the sale of disposable barbecues to be suspended 'for the remainder of this summer while the risk of wildfires remains expceptionally high'.

With temperatures warming up again this week, the public is being urged to keep away from areas affected by wildfires and to do their part to help prevent further incidents.

Staffordshire County Council countryside officers from Staffordshire Country Parks are still working around the clock to damp down hotspots at Sherbrook Valley, just off Chase Road in Cannock, after a second wildfire ripped through a large area of heathland.

The fire, which happened last Wednesday, destroyed around 21 football pitches of heathland habitats, killing lots of wildlife in its wake. It is not yet known what caused this latest fire but it will take many years for the area to recover.

Overstretched fire crews from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue have now left the site but the public has been asked to avoid the area while the county council's rangers continue to damp down the ground to prevent reignition.

With temperatures expected to reach 34C this week, the wildfire risk continues to be exceptionally high for Staffordshire's countryside.

The public is being reminded to do their part to help prevent further wildfires in the countryside by not using
❌Barbecues
❌Campfires
❌Cigarettes

✅Please take all litter home with you, a glass bottle with sunshine can spark a flame.

✅If you see a fire please call 999 immediately.

Continue to avoid the fire site in Sherbook Valley and respect the Chase Road closures that are in place for everyone's safety, while the wildfire risk remains high.
