I never made it to RADA despite my efforts! But I embraced my inner Am Dram 🎭 today in session with some role play/empty chair techniques 🪑
This experimental Psychotherapy technique stemmed from Gestalt theory devised by the German Philosopher Fritz Perl’s. It’s not for everyone but it can be a really valuable way to have the conversations with the people you never got to, or maybe never will get to.
I applaud anyone who embraces stepping out of their comfort zones to experience new depths of their Psyche 👏 it’s not all tissues and comfy chats in therapy!

Children and young people should not have to reach crisis point before they can access mental health support.

Analysis by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health found that more than 75,000 six to 17-year-olds attended A&E for a mental health concern in England in 2025 – a 36% increase compared with 2019.

We’re calling for earlier access to counselling and psychological support, so children can get the help they need before their difficulties escalate.

Too often, support is only available once a young person is already in crisis. Early intervention can make a real difference to their mental health and wellbeing.

We’ll continue to make the case for a mental health system that provides timely, accessible support for children and young people.

THE EFFECTS OF PAIN ON MENTAL HEALTH

As someone who battles chronic back pain (L5 disc herniation) after a bad riding fall some years ago. I have dealt with the restrictions/life limitations and emotional impact leading a more limiting life entails, whether that be through a condition or an accident. I empathise with you!

I am fully aware the impact pain has on our psyche. It can be soul destroying to not feel like yourself, not do what you once could, especially if like me you were once active and like for so many, exercise and being physical bought you a dopamine rush and was your therapy.

I have seen so many people struggle to comes to terms with a new way of life and how the body changes as a result of this (weight gain, body weakness, body dystrophy, body dysmorphia etc)

Like all things in life they have a Yin and Yang effect ☯️ so it’s important to grieve the life that once was before pain, whilst simultaneously accepting and loving the body you find yourself in. It’s our shell, our home. It might not be the home of your dreams but it’s your beautiful home none the less! 🐚

Lots on the internet about managing long term pain homeopathicaly.

“Don’t waste your life’s purpose on worrying about your body. It’s your vessel, it’s your house, it’s where you live” - Emma Thompson

Chronic pain can impact mental health and vice versa. But how? And why? Importantly what can you do to achieve better mental and physical health?

Are you an intuitive empath? Takes one to know one 😉 it sure is a gift and a curse though!

Curse? Being highly sensitive, you overthink, over worry, over give, over care. You burn out quicker and the world can seem like a cruel place to experience sometimes.
The gift? You have an ability to read a room, read people (especially toxic ones!) care and love for others with depth, people open up to you, you love deeply, People and animals trust and like you 🙂

If you find that you always feel you’re the sensitive one or you take on everyone else’s problems you might be an empath. If this sounds like you then it’s important to have boundaries and be protective of your precious energy 🙏 it’s your greatest investment 💛🫶

If therapy isn’t within your budget the Samaritans offer a call helpline you can chat to someone through. It’s not therapy but having someone at the end of the line can help. I’ve been a volunteer with them for over a year now so if you need support on a Wednesday it might just be me!

The theme of my sessions today was….change.

‘The only constant is change’ - As told by the Greek philosopher Heraclitus.

Or

“No man steps in the same river twice”

My philosophy? If something doesn’t serve you, let it go, Change it. The lesson to be learned is to not fear change. It’s a journey not an outcome!

Huge lover of poetry but you don’t have to be to let this one by Rudyard Kipling resonate…..

IF

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance for their doubting too.
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, or being lied about, don’t deal in lies, or being hated, don’t give way to hating, and yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise.

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors just the same.
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools.

If, you can make one heap of all your winnings and risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss and lose, and start again at your beginnings and never breathe a word about your loss.
If, you can force your heart and nerve and sinew to serve your turn long after they are gone, so hold on when there is nothing in you expect the Will which says to them - Hold on!

If, you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch.
If, neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you.
If, all men count with you, but none too much.
If, you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it and which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!
