The solar eclipse as a time for stillness: the yoga scriptures have many writings on eclipses going back thousands of years. Many of us will hope to witness this rare cosmic event as it happens in our skies this evening. In the yogic (Vedic) tradition, this event holds huge significance for our spiritual journey. As the shadow of the moon falls upon the sun, the subtle energies of nature are activated, impacting all living beings on our planet.
If viewing the eclipse simply isn't for you or if you are unable to view it for any reason: in the yogic tradition, this eclipse can be approached not as a spectacle but as an opportunity to step away from the external world, to turn inward, to embrace the stillness. You might have been feeling heightened emotions over the last day or two.
Things to do:
If you haven't already begun your day, it's a beautiful opportunity to start the day with a sun salutation or two.
During the eclipse, perform a simple seated meditation.
Dance!
Eat a light meal, nothing heavy.
Those of you who know me will be aware that | love singing mantras. I hope to be on a beautiful Mull beach this evening and will maybe get a chance to sing a mantra to the sun.
Wishing you a wonderful day and a fulfilling end to it.
