Hot weather!

The forecast for the coming days is looking to become very hot, with temperatures predicted to be reaching into the mid 30’s. This sudden increase in temperature means our dogs won’t be acclimatised to the heat, making them more vulnerable to heat stroke. This is especially true for elderly dogs, overweight dogs and brachycephalic breeds.

If your dog is due to come for an appointment and you are concerned about travelling/their welfare, please do let us know and we will cancel or rearrange their appointment. Our building normally stays comfortable during excess heat, but we understand that dogs often just struggle to cope and are often best off staying at home and keeping cool 🐾

Did you know that all of our staff are trained in canine first aid? As ongoing care for our clients our staff attend training every three years to update their first aid knowledge and receive certification. Yesterday three of our staff members (AJ, Katie & Tina) took their refresher course with dog first aid Derbyshire.

These courses aren’t just for those who work with dogs, they are for dog owners too. If you’re interested in knowing more about what to do in a canine emergency, check out the link below 🐾

This winter’s been hard… long, dark, cold and wet. We’ve seen many of our arthritic clients feel the effects of this, causing them to struggle more.

As a result we’ve seen owners have to say goodbye to their beloved friends. This also means we say goodbye to dogs that have been in our care, often weekly, for several months or even years. We get to know those lovey dogs and their owners and it’s always so sad when the time comes.

We’ve had to say good bye several times over the last few weeks and have received news of others that have passed this week.

We want to say to all those that have suffered a loss recently, we are thinking of you and want to thank you for entrusting your dog into our care. They will be missed 🩶

A recent pilot study evaluated the effects of a 10-session underwater treadmill programme across 50 dogs of varying ages and musculoskeletal conditions. What stood out immediately was the study’s clinical realism: mixed pathologies, inconsistent baselines, and the kind of patient diversity that complicates research but mirrors our caseloads perfectly.

Over five weeks, each dog completed a structured, controlled underwater treadmill protocol. The researchers reported improvements in joint range of motion across all measured joints, regardless of diagnosis or pathology. While this was a small, exploratory study, the consistency of the findings is compelling - especially given how multifactorial ROM limitations can be in chronic and degenerative disease.

If you’d like a deeper analysis of the methodology, outcomes, and clinical relevance,
