We all do it .....adopt bad posture! We hunch over our phones/tablets/laptops, slouch when sitting etc. There is now an official condition called ‘tech neck’ as we spend so much time looking down at our phones/devices.
On average the human head weighs 12lbs. However, when you’re looking down at your phone/tablet this can increase to 60lbs. To compare that - imagine carrying an 8 yr old child round your neck for hours everyday! 😱
Smartphone users spend an average of 2-4 hrs per day hunched over their phones reading emails, on social media, playing games etc. That causes severe strain on your neck and spine, can cause spinal disc and nerve damage, and can even reduce lung capacity too. The effect is similar to bending a finger all the way back and holding it there for an hour!
So when spending time on your phone make sure you keep your head upright aligned correctly (ears in line with shoulders) - either look down at your phone with your eyes not your neck or bring your phone up to eye level.
And regularly do neck stretches - move your head from left to right several times; stand in a doorway with your arms extended and push your chest forward to straighten muscles. Loads more easy stretches online to look up.
Look after yourselves my lovelies and protect yourself from pain and damage.
