Mental health and mental wellbeing are cousins, not twins. π§ π±
Theyβre closely connected and influence each other, but they are not the same thing.
Mental health refers to the overall functioning and condition of the mind β including our thoughts, emotions, behaviours, coping ability, and mental illness or distress.
Mental wellbeing relates more to quality of life and how positively we experience life β including balance, resilience, connection, meaning, and fulfilment.
You can have no diagnosed mental health condition and still feel emotionally exhausted or disconnected. Equally, someone can live with a mental health condition and still experience joy, purpose, and wellbeing.
Understanding the difference can help us speak more clearly and compassionately about psychological experiences.
